The UP Medical Students' Society (UP MSS), guided by its mission-vision, serves as a mediator in "uniting all UP medical students and providing the widest perspective possible as to the role of the medical profession in the development of the Philippines and its people." It recognizes the ever-growing potential of future medical professionals, in that they are not only equipped with the intellect that could cure diseases but are also gifted with a responsive character to effect the much-needed change in these times. In this light, we offer everyone in the UP-PGH community the opportunity to showcase their talents in the annual Tao Rin Pala Chorale Competition and Variety Show (TRP). It is a magnanimous presentation filled with sining, dancing, acting, and much more, as the show reveals the veiled humane side of the people from UP-PGH. In as much as there is competition and rivalry among classes in vying for the much-coveted TRP Choral Competition trophy, there is also a fostered unity among the organizers and participants from student and faculty groups. The society is also involved in promoting academic excellence among its members and other medical students. UP MSS hosts the annual Interscholastic Clinico-Pathological Conference (ICPC). The event is carried out through a partnership with the Department of Pathology. In addition to the ICPC, UP MSS also organizes yearly Neurology and Histology review sessions for the freshmen, as well as reviews for the Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE). Through these activities, the UP MSS aims to continually challenge the intellect of the students. To develop its sense of humanity and compassion towards patients, the UP MSS spearheads medical and surgical missions to different communities in out country. In these missions, students are not only taught how to treat common disease, but also how to deal with people from all walks of like. Through these activities and projects, the UP Medical Students' Society is able to provide an alternative platform for learning and understanding the path to becoming a good doctor not only for today, but also for the coming times as well; strengthening our principles and influencing others in our attempt to improve the lives of our fellow men.
