The first Labor Day in the Philippines was celebrated on May 1, 1903, when more than 100,000 workers marched to Malacañang to demand fair wages and better working conditions!

This historic event, led by the Union Obrera Democratica de Filipinas, marked the beginning of organized labor activism in the country and helped shape the rights we enjoy today as Filipino workers.

Today, we salute all hardworking Filipinos 🫡

Centennial Coronation of Our Lady of Manaoag today, April 22, 2026.

It is the third Marian icon in the Philippines to receive a canonical coronation (April 22, 1926). The 100th anniversary of this coronation was celebrated on April 22, 2026.

Our Lady of Manaoag (Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag) is a 17th-century Roman Catholic ivory image of the Virgin Mary in Manaoag, Pangasinan, Philippines. Known for countless reported miracles, it is a major pilgrimage site, particularly renowned for the 1610 apparition where Mary appeared to a farmer, which named the town ("Manaoag" meaning "to call").

On Good Friday, Christians commemorate the arrest, trial, crucifixion, death, and burial of Jesus Christ, believed to be the Son of God. He was sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate, scourged, mocked by soldiers, forced to carry his cross, and crucified at Calvary (Golgotha) before dying and being buried.✝️

The Seven Last Words of Jesus are the final seven phrases spoken while hanging on the cross, as recorded in the Gospels. They are profound utterances of forgiveness, salvation, filial relationship, abandonment, physical suffering, victory, and trust in God.

The Seven Sayings (in traditional order):
1. "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) - A prayer for his executioners.
2. "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43) - Spoken to the penitent thief.
3. "Woman, behold your son: behold your mother." (John 19:26-27) - Entrusting Mary and the beloved disciple to one another.
4. "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34) - Expressing the agony of feeling abandoned by God.
5. "I thirst." (John 19:28) - Expressing his physical suffering.
6. "It is finished." (John 19:30) - Indicating the completion of his earthly ministry and salvation mission.
7. "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit." (Luke 23:46) - Final act of surrender.

On the Thursday before Good Friday and Easter, many Christians observe Maundy Thursday. This day commemorates Jesus’s last supper with his disciples. During that meal in the upper room, Jesus washed his disciples’ feet and gave them a new commandment: “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another” (John 13:34). The word “Maundy” comes from the Latin mandatum, meaning “command.”

Wednesday of Holy Week is traditionally known as Spy Wednesday, to commemorate the treachery of Judas, who made a bargain with the high priest to betray Jesus for 30 silver pieces (Matt 26:14-16; Mark 14:10-11; Luke 22:1-6).

Even in betrayal, God's love remains faithful.✝️
