INTRODUCTION
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be saved? Many people think we must do good deeds, follow strict rules, or earn God’s favor to enter heaven. But the Bible reveals a different truth—one that brings freedom, hope, and assurance. The core message of Christianity is that salvation comes not from what we do, but from what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. Today, we explore this foundational truth: salvation is by grace through faith.
POINT 1: GRACE IS GOD’S UNMERITED FAVOR
Grace is the unearned, undeserved love and kindness God shows to sinners. We were all separated from God because of sin (Romans 3:23), and we could never make ourselves worthy of His presence. But God, in His great mercy, chose to save us not because we deserved it, but because of His love.
- Ephesians 2:4-5 says: “But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved.”
- Titus 3:5 adds: “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”
God’s grace reaches out to us where we are, not where we think we should be.
POINT 2: FAITH IS OUR RESPONSE TO GOD’S GRACE
While salvation is entirely a gift from God, He calls us to receive it through faith. Faith is not just mental agreement—it is trusting in Jesus Christ alone as our Lord and Savior, believing that His death on the cross paid for our sins and His resurrection gives us new life.
- Romans 3:22 states: “This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile.”
- Hebrews 11:6 reminds us: “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
Faith is the hand that reaches out to take the gift God freely offers.
POINT 3: SALVATION IS NOT BY WORKS
A common misunderstanding is that we can earn salvation by doing good things. But the Bible makes it clear that works cannot save us—they are the result of salvation, not the cause. This truth protects us from pride and ensures we give all glory to God.
- Ephesians 2:8-9 declares: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
- Romans 4:5 says: “However, to the one who does not work but trusts God who justifies the ungodly, their faith is credited as righteousness.”
We are saved to do good works (Ephesians 2:10), but those works do not earn us a place in heaven.
CONCLUSION
Salvation by grace through faith is the heart of the Gospel. God’s grace provides what we cannot earn, our faith receives what He freely gives, and we are saved not by our works but by His love. This truth brings peace—we don’t have to worry about being “good enough” because Jesus has already done everything needed. Let us hold fast to this promise and share it with others, so they too may experience the freedom of being saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus.
