βΌοΈ Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects 1 in 20 Filipinos over 45. π«
Over time, exposure to lung irritants like to***co smoke or chemicals can damage your lungs and airways. This long-term exposure can cause COPD, which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
It causes your airways to narrow and blocks airflow from the lungs β leaving you breathless.
The leading cause of COPD is smoking. Other risk factors include:
πͺ΅ Smoke exposure from coal or wood-burning stoves
π¬ Exposure to secondhand smoke
π« People with a history of asthma or childhood respiratory infections.
Although the symptoms don't usually appear until after the age of 50, it's still important to understand them and their cause.
