-Infection: The most common cause of gastric and duodenal ulcers. -Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is very common in Filipinos (estimated at 70%) because it is easily transmitted from person to person through eating and drinking, through food and drinking water. HP bacteria can live and multiply in the mucus layer covering the stomach lining without causing disease, but when the mucus layer covering the lining is broken, it will cause inflammation and lead to stomach ulcers.
-Use of drugs: Anti-inflammatory pain relievers such as aspirin, ibuprofen, steroids, ... are used incorrectly or used frequently due to treatment needs.
-Some risk factors:
-Smoking can increase stomach ulcers in people infected with HP bacteria
-Drinking alcohol increases stimulation and erodes the mucus layer covering the stomach lining and causes stimulation to increase acid production in the stomach
-Unreasonable diet: Eating too much spicy food, fried food, irregular eating...
-Stress: Prolonged stress, or stress after surgery, trauma...
