Fats: Friend or Foe?
Fats play an important role in our body — they give us energy, help absorb vitamins, and protect our organs. BUT not all fats are created equal.

❌ Too much saturated and trans fats can raise your “bad” cholesterol (LDL) → leading to heart disease and stroke.
✅ Healthy fats from fish, nuts, seeds, and olive oil can actually help protect your heart.

Choose good fats, limit the bad, and keep your cholesterol in check for a healthier heart. ❤

National Lung Month 2025

Every breath counts.
Ngayong National Lung Month, we shine the spotlight on our lungs — the silent workers that keep us going day and night. Yet, many Filipinos continue to battle diseases like asthma, COPD, tuberculosis, and lung cancer — often in silence.

Did you know?
✔️ The Philippines is one of the top countries with high rates of chronic respiratory diseases.
✔️ Air pollution, smoking, and even recurring infections can damage your lungs over time.
✔️ Early detection and prevention are key to long-term lung health.

Protect your lungs.
✅ Quit smoking
✅ Wear a mask when exposed to pollutants
✅ Get vaccinated against flu and pneumonia
✅ Avoid exposure to dust, molds, and toxic fumes

This month, Zydus Healthcare Philippines joins the call to raise awareness, promote early action, and help every Filipino breathe easier. Because every lung deserves care. Every breath, protection.

Mental Health Struggles Don’t Always Look Like Sadness”
Sometimes, it looks like being too busy to cry.
Sometimes, it looks like a smile that hides the storm.

Many people think mental health issues look like tears and silence.
But truth is — anxiety, burnout, and depression can hide in plain sight.
Could be:
Working students juggling classes and shifts
Employees quietly drowning in deadlines
Nanays who can’t afford to pause even when exhausted

Self-Check: Is It Just Stress or Something Deeper?
Ask yourself:
☑️ "Do I feel tired even after resting?"
☑️ "Am I unusually irritable or numb lately?"
☑️ "Have I lost interest in things I used to enjoy?"
☑️ "Do I feel like I’m barely surviving each day?"

If yes to more than 2, it might be time to reach out.

What You Can Do:
1. Talk to someone you trust
2. Take mental breaks, even short ones
3. Seek professional support — mental health is health

Know that you're not weak. You're human.
You’re not alone.
You don’t have to “look sad” to ask for help.

Nerve Damage is No Joke: Watch Out for Tingling or Numbness

That tingling or numbness in your feet may seem harmless at first — but for someone with diabetes, it could be a red flag for diabetic neuropathy, a type of nerve damage caused by persistently high blood sugar levels. This condition often starts in the feet or legs, bringing symptoms like burning pain, sensitivity to touch, muscle weakness, or even complete numbness.

Because diabetic neuropathy develops gradually, many people don’t notice it until it starts interfering with daily life — making it hard to walk, wear shoes, or feel injuries. In some cases, unnoticed wounds can become infected, leading to foot ulcers or even amputation.

🦶 Prevention is key:
✔ Do daily foot checks to spot cuts, blisters, or changes in skin color.
✔ Wear proper-fitting footwear to avoid pressure or injury.
✔ Most importantly, keep your blood sugar in the target range.

Take those weird sensations seriously — they’re your body’s way of telling you it needs help. Don’t ignore them.

Heart & Diabetes: A Dangerous Duo

Did you know that people with diabetes are 2 to 4 times more likely to develop heart disease than those without it?

This isn't just a statistic — it’s a wake-up call.

Diabetes doesn’t only affect blood sugar — it impacts the entire cardiovascular system. High blood sugar levels over time can damage blood vessels and the nerves that control the heart. It also increases the risk of high blood pressure, unhealthy cholesterol levels, and inflammation, all of which are major drivers of heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure.

And here’s the tricky part: heart disease can develop silently in people with diabetes. You might not feel chest pain or other warning signs until the condition is already serious.

But there’s hope — and action.

Here’s how to protect your heart if you have diabetes:

✅Keep your blood sugar in target — consistent control reduces vessel damage

✅Watch your blood pressure and cholesterol — ask your doctor about your “ABCs” (A1C, Blood pressure, Cholesterol)

✅Eat heart-healthy — whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, and good fats

✅Get moving daily — even 30 minutes of walking can make a big difference

✅Quit smoking — it multiplies your risk of both heart disease and stroke

✅Take your medications — for diabetes, BP, or cholesterol, as prescribed

Don’t wait for a heart attack to pay attention to your heart.
Start with small, consistent steps today.

I Almost Didn’t Know I Had Hypertension

“Akala ko kasi normal lang ‘yung hilo at pagod. Yun pala, BP ko sobrang taas na.”
For 42-year-old Eric, a regular office worker and father of three, high blood pressure wasn’t even on his radar.
He didn’t feel “that sick.
Maybe it was stress, puyat, and too much coffee.
Until one day at work, he nearly fainted in a meeting.

His BP? 170/100.
No signs. No warnings.
Just a “buti na lang napacheck” moment that could’ve gone worse.

Hypertension is called a “silent killer” for a reason.
You may feel fine — until you’re not.

Watch for subtle signs:
• Madalas na hilo
• Pananakit ng batok
• Fatigue or palpitations
• Blurred vision
• Shortness of breath

Protect your heart, brain, and kidneys:
✔️ Get your BP checked regularly — kahit wala kang nararamdaman
✔️ Iwas alat, iwas stress
✔️ Take prescribed meds seriously

May bula o amag?

✔️Keep the fridge closed. Hindi pagbukas-bukas para manatiling malamig sa loob
✔️Frozen items can last 24–48 hours kung hindi nabubuksan ang freezer

Delatang may tagas o bukol (possible contamination)

Health Tip:
