Goiter Awareness Week is observed every 4th week of January of every year. πŸ’™

People with goiter often have an abnormal enlargement of the thyroid gland, which can lead to swelling in the neck. The symptoms may include tiredness, weight loss or gain, low or increased appetite, diarrhea or constipation, and menstrual irregularities.

Since iodine deficiency is the most common cause of goiter, people are advised to use iodized salts in their meals and to eat food rich in iodine, such as dairy products, seafood, meats, bread, and eggs. πŸ₯šπŸžπŸ€πŸ£

Special attention should be provided to pregnant women because iodine deficiency during this critical period can cause premature birth, miscarriage, or the delivery of a baby with low intellect.
