We, the youth leaders and volunteers of Kabataang FPOP, stand in resolute solidarity with communities, health professionals, and civil society organizations across the Philippines in calling for the immediate declaration of a Public Health Emergency in response to the escalating health crisis confronting our nation.
As young advocates of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), we witness firsthand how fragile health systems and delayed government response place livesβespecially those of women, youth, and marginalized sectorsβat unacceptable risk. We cannot remain silent when access to essential health services is undermined, when misinformation spreads unchecked, and when the most vulnerable are left behind.
A Public Health Emergency declaration is not just a bureaucratic labelβit is a life-saving mechanism. It mobilizes resources, ensures swift interagency coordination, and reinforces public accountability. It signals urgency, not panic; responsibility, not fear. It opens pathways for comprehensive, science-based, and community-grounded responses that prioritize health equity and human rights.
As Kabataang FPOP, we assert:
1. That health is a human right, not a privilege.
2. That young people must be part of the solution, empowered to lead, inform, and serve in times of crisis.
3. That government transparency, proactive leadership, and evidence-based policy are non-negotiable in protecting public health.
We echo the voices of those demanding actionβnot tomorrow, but today. Declare a Public Health Emergency now. Lives depend on it.
We remember the neglected. We rise for the underserved. We lead with compassion and courage.
