LOOK: The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region, through its Gender and Development-Focal Point System (GAD-FPS) officially launched the 2026 Search for Women in Action for the Environment: Schools Edition via Facebook Live on February 24, Tuesday.

The contest is a regionwide search which aims to recognize the outstanding contributions of women in MIMAROPA relevant to the field of environmental protection and management. Awarding ceremony for the search will be held in September 2026.

TAKE A PEEK: The Provincial Environmental Management Unit (PEMU)-Oriental Mindoro joins in the review of the drafted 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan for 2025-2035 by the Municipality of Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro on February 11.

PEMU-Oriental Mindoro Chief Mark Angelo Rogel attended the review which was held to check the drafted ten-year plan's compliance with the provisions of the Republic Act No. 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000. The review will also enable stakeholders to provide inputs relevant to the plan's adaptability to the growing population and its capacity to improve waste diversion, among others.

CHECK THIS OUT: The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region spearheaded the conduct of the First Quarter Governing Board Meeting for Fiscal Year 2026 of the Bacuit-El Nido Bay Water Quality Management Area (WQMA) in El Nido, Palawan on February 4.

Among the highlights of the meeting is the adoption of the Ten-Year Action Plan of the Bacuit-El Nido Bay WQMA by the members of the Governing Board through Board Resolution No. 2026-01.

In 2021, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources officially designated the Bacuit-El Nido Bay as a Water Quality Management Area through the DENR Administrative Order No. 2021-44. Said policy authorized the creation of a governing board whose main responsibility is to improve the water quality of Bacuit-El Nido Bay towards sustainable tourism, environmental protection, and good public health.

LOOK: The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region, through its Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division (EMED), conducted an Environmental Forum for El Nido Tour Boat Operators and Chamber of Commerce on the management of used oil and other waste generated by tourist boats at Jurias Garden Hotel in El Nido, Palawan on February 3.

Said forum was held to address various issues and concerns relevant to the used oil and waste generation of tourist boats operating within the tourist spots in El Nido, Palawan.

The EMB MIMAROPA Region, in collaboration with the Local Government Unit of El Nido and other stakeholders, aims to protect the water quality in El Nido in accordance with the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.

LOOK: Environmental Monitoring Officers (EnMOs) Maricris M. Patulot and Josah Niña M. Martinez represented the Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region in the Zero Waste Month celebration of the Municipality of Victoria in Oriental Mindoro on January 30.

Patulot conducted a short environmental lecture on solid waste management during the activity, which was eventually preceded by a cleanup activity along the streets of Victoria. The month of January is declared as the National Zero Waste Month pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 760, series of 2014.

TAKE A PEEK: The Environmental Management Services (EMS)-Romblon sent out a team to conduct water sampling activity at Carmen Bay in San Agustin, Romblon on January 29, 2026.

Said activity was held as part of the ambient water quality monitoring of EMB MIMAROPA Region as mandated under the Republic Act No. 9275 or the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004.

CHECK THIS OUT: Supervising Environmental Management Specialist Zosima Jampit of the Provincial Environmental Management Unit (PEMU)-Palawan attended the Mount Mantalingahan Protected Landscape (MMPL) 30th Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) En Banc Meeting on January 29 at Fontera Garden Suites in Quezon, Palawan.

Said meeting was held to conduct meaningful dialogues relevant to the effective protected area management and conservation of the MMPL. For its part, the EMB MIMAROPA Region ensures that the projects in the area comply with the requirements of various environmental laws including the Philippine Environmental Impact Statement System, among others.

LOOK: The Provincial Environmental Management Unit (PEMU)-Oriental Mindoro, through Environmental Management Specialist I Deunise Angelo H. Abu, attended the Stakeholder's Consultation Meeting for Fiscal Year 2026 at the LD Ignacio Island Resort in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro on January 28, 2026.

The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO)-Roxas spearheaded the said meeting, creating a platform for addressing the various environmental issues and concerns in the southern part of Oriental Mindoro.

LOOK: The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region conducted its Target Setting Activity for Calendar Year 2026 on January 23 at the Citadines Roces Hotel in Quezon City, Metro Manila.

Said event was held to strategically plan the targets set for CY 2026, distribute said targets, and discuss issues and concerns which may arise from the workshop. EMB MIMAROPA Regional Director Joe Amil M. Salino led the said activity, reminding everyone of their responsibilities in accomplishing the targets, and assuring all the employees of support when needed.

CHECK THIS OUT: The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region, through the Regional Environmental Education and Information Unit (REEIU) and the Human Resource Development and Management Unit (HRDMU), held a two-day “Training-Workshop on Effective Technical Writing and Public Communications” at the Citadines Roces Hotel in Quezon City, Metro Manila on January 21-22, 2026.

Aimed at improving the capacity of EMB MIMAROPA Region personnel in producing accurate, clear, and well-structured reports and other documents, the training-workshop featured communication experts from various government agencies like the Presidential Communications Office, DENR-Strategic Communication and Initiatives Service, EMB Central Office, and Philippine Information Agency as resource speakers.
