The Environmental Management Bureau proudly congratulates our OIC-Assistant Secretary for Environment and Concurrent EMB Director, Jacqueline A. Caancan, for being honored with the 2025 Outstanding Regional Forester of the Year for the National Capital Region by the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc. (SFFI)!

This prestigious award was presented during the 77th SFFI National Conference held in Iloilo City from September 10 to 14, 2025.

The SFFI is the only accredited integrated professional organization of foresters in the Philippines. This award recognizes regional forestry professionals who have made exceptional contributions to sustainable resource management, leadership in forestry initiatives, and community-level projects.

Her dedication and tireless efforts continue to inspire us all in the pursuit of sustainable environmental stewardship.

Today, September 16, we are commemorating the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer with the theme, "40 Years of the Vienna Convention: From Science to Global Action."

According to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), scientific information shows that the phasing out of man-made chemicals used in refrigeration, aerosol sprays, and foam production is paving the way for the ozone layer to its recovery.

DENR Assistant Secretary for Environment and concurrent EMB Director Jacqueline A. Caancan, CESO III says, "The restoration of the ozone layer proves that when we act with purpose, grounded in science, and united in our mission, we can overcome even the greatest threats."

LOOK: The Environmental Management Bureau MIMAROPA Region organized an exposure tour for the participants of the "Integrated Capacity Development for LGUs on Solid Waste Management" to the exhibits and showroom of WASTO Waste Solutions in Tunasan, Muntinlupa City earlier today.

During the site visit of participants from MIMAROPA Region, WASTO by Alpha Distinct Development Solutions Inc. showcased upcycled innovations that turn plastic waste into valuable products, encouraging them to transform plastic, agricultural, and industrial waste into useful items.

Ms. Michelle Bautista-Tañada of WASTO Waste Solutions delivered an engaging talk and walk-through of the different sustainable innovations displayed during the site visit. She highlighted the quality and value of upcycled solutions and explained how their innovation could help towards achieving a waste-free future.

Said tour was held to encourage LGUs in MIMAROPA Region to learn about upcycling and other waste management systems for integration in their local practices.

AT THE MOMENT: Participants of the EMB MIMAROPA Region’s Integrated Capacity Development for Local Government Units on Solid Waste Management also paid visit to the Payatas Controlled Disposal Facility in Payatas, Quezon City today. This comes as part of the event's objective to showcase relevant waste management practices to representatives of LGUs in MIMAROPA for adaptation or implementation within their respective jurisdictions.
