🚨 LEPTOSPIROSIS ALERT 🚨
Floods aren’t just an inconvenience—they carry serious health risks. One of the most dangerous is Leptospirosis, a bacterial infection spread through floodwater contaminated with rat urine.
👉 How you get it:
• Wading in floodwaters (even with small wounds)
• Contact of contaminated water with eyes, nose, or mouth
👉 Symptoms (5–14 days after exposure):
• Fever, headache, muscle pain (especially calves)
• Red eyes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
• Yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), dark urine
👉 Protect Yourself:
✅ Avoid floodwaters if possible
✅ Wear boots/gloves if unavoidable
✅ Wash thoroughly with soap and clean water after exposure
✅ Seek early consultation—DOH has leptospirosis fast lanes in hospitals
💊 Prophylaxis is available (antibiotics like doxycycline) but ONLY with medical advice.
⚠️ Amid ongoing flood control issues in the country, protecting yourself and your family is the best defense. Don’t wait until symptoms worsen—early treatment saves lives.
