The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), through its Swine Development Project, successfully conducted the redispersal of 12 gilts to seven (7) qualified enrollees from Bayugan City, Bunawan, Rosario, and Sibagat, Agusan del Sur, during August to September 2025.

This initiative aims to strengthen the local swine industry by providing quality breeder stocks to farmer-enrollees, enabling them to improve their livelihood and contribute to the province’s food security. Each enrollee was carefully selected based on their readiness and capability to raise and sustain the animals, ensuring the sustainability of the program.

The activity reflects the PVO’s continuous effort to uplift backyard swine raisers by introducing better breeds, enhancing production, and supporting the economic development of farming communities in the province.

The Provincial Veterinary Office, through its Animal Production Division, conducted a Training on Free-range Chicken Production and Management for the Barangay Patin-ay Women Farmers' Association on September 5, 2025.

The activity aimed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills in raising free-range chickens as a sustainable source of livelihood and nutrition for their families. Topics discussed during the training included proper housing and feeding management, health care and disease prevention, and strategies for maximizing production and profitability.

The women farmers actively participated in the discussions and hands-on demonstrations, showing eagerness to apply the techniques they learned in their respective households and community farms. This initiative also supports the province’s livestock development programs, which promote food security, income generation, and empowerment of rural communities, especially women.

The initiative aimed to promote responsible pet ownership, control the population of stray animals, and safeguard public health by reducing the risks of rabies and other zoonotic diseases. Pet owners in the community actively participated by bringing their dogs and cats for the free veterinary service.

Through this program, the PVO continues its commitment to strengthening animal health management while supporting communities in creating safer and healthier environments for both people and animals.

The activity aimed to strengthen disease surveillance and monitoring for ASF while ensuring the health and immunity of the swine population through vitamin supplementation. This proactive intervention is part of the PVO's ongoing efforts to safeguard the local hog industry and support backyard raisers in maintaining sustainable and disease-resilient swine production.

To boost poultry production in the province, the Provincial Veterinary Office, through its Animal Production Division under the Poultry Development Project (PDP), distributed 200 heads of Crossbreed Chicken Breeder Stocks to members of the Libertad USAD Farmers Association in Libertad, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur.

Each of the 10 beneficiaries received twenty (20) heads during the distribution activity held on September 1, 2025, at the Provincial Veterinary Office, led by their chairman, Mr. Sofronio G. Tampepe.

Alongside the poultry dispersal, vitamin supplements and veterinary drugs were also distributed to help ensure the chickens’ health and productivity.

The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), through its Animal Production Division, conducted a Training on Cattle Production with Forage and Pasture Management for the Taogdan Imelda Farmers Association (TIFA) on August 14–15, 2025, at the Function Hall, Barangay Imelda, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.

The two-day training was attended by 15 farmer-enrollees from TIFA, who were equipped with practical knowledge and technical skills in sustainable cattle production, proper utilization of forage crops, and effective pasture management strategies. The sessions emphasized science-based practices aimed at improving livestock productivity, ensuring animal health, and promoting sustainable farming systems in the province.

This initiative reflects the PVO’s continuing commitment to strengthening the livestock industry in Agusan del Sur by empowering farmers with the tools and knowledge necessary to enhance their livelihoods. The Provincial Veterinary Office, through the Animal Production Division, conducted area validation activities for the Carabao Development Project (CarDP) applicants on July 15, 16, 22, 23, 24, and 25, 2025.

The validation aimed to assess the eligibility and readiness of potential beneficiaries for the CarDP program, which focuses on the promotion of carabao-based enterprises to support rural livelihoods and sustainable agriculture.

Site visits and evaluations were carried out in the following barangays:
– Brgy. Cubo, Esperanza, Agusan del Sur
– Brgy. Tagubay, Bayugan City
– Brgy. Tabon-tabon, Sta. Maria, San Isidro, and Poblacion, Sibagat, Agusan del Sur

During the validation process, the team assessed the applicants’ capacity to manage carabao production, including the availability of housing facilities, forage resources, and commitment to proper animal care. The activity also involved interviews, documentation reviews, and technical guidance to ensure that only qualified and capable beneficiaries are selected for the project.

The activity aimed to prevent and control the spread of Surra (Trypanosomiasis) among livestock, a disease that poses a serious threat to animal health and local livelihood. Anti-trypanosomal drugs were administered to at-risk animals, while vitamin supplements were provided to boost their immune system and improve their overall condition.

This initiative was carried out in collaboration with barangay officials and local farmers, who were also oriented on disease symptoms and proper animal care practices. The activity formed part of the province’s ongoing commitment to promoting animal health and supporting the agricultural sector.
