𝗡𝗖𝗗𝗔 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘: NCDA Urges Public to Make Cemeteries and Columbaria Accessible for Persons with Disabilities this Undas
As Filipinos prepare to honor their departed loved ones this Undas, the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) calls on local government units, cemetery administrators, and the public to ensure that cemeteries, memorial parks, and columbaria are accessible, safe, and inclusive for persons with disabilities.
To support an inclusive observance of Undas, the Council encourages the provision of ramps, wide and unobstructed pathways, accessible restrooms, resting areas, and designated assistance points in cemeteries and columbaria. These measures will allow persons with disabilities and older persons to visit and pay respects to their loved ones with comfort and dignity.
The NCDA also reminds the public to practice courtesy and extend assistance to persons with disabilities particularly in crowded areas, parking spaces, and transport terminals leading to cemeteries and columbaria.
Accessibility is a basic right guaranteed under Republic Act No. 7277, or the Magna Carta for Persons with Disabilities, and the Batas Pambansa Blg. 344. These laws collectively mandate the removal of physical and social barriers and the establishment of facilities that promote mobility, participation, and safety of persons with disabilities in all public spaces.
This Undas, the NCDA reiterates its call for a compassionate and inclusive observance that upholds accessibility, respect, and the equal rights of all Filipinos.
