What is inflammation?

Inflammation is our body's way of fighting against things that might harm it, like infections, injuries, or irritants.

While acute inflammation is a beneficial response, chronic inflammation can have detrimental effects on health and well-being.

Persistent inflammation has been linked to the development and progression of various chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.

๐Ÿ’On the bright side, there are things that we can do to manage inflammation:
โœ…๏ธstress management
โœ…๏ธavoiding harmful substances like to***co and excessive alcohol
โœ…๏ธhealthy lifestyle choices, including a balanced diet, regular exercise

Studies show that:
๐Ÿ’eating cherries lowered the levels of certain substances in the body that cause inflammation [1]
๐Ÿ’consuming cherries reduced the levels of eight markers in the blood linked to inflammatory diseases [2]
๐Ÿ’the natural compounds found in cherries could help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, which are factors that may increase the risk of diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, cancer, and high blood pressure [3]

Is it better than eating something before you exercise?
No.

If you prefer exercising on an empty stomach, fine, do fasted cardio.

If youโ€™re like me who feel more tired, weak and canโ€™t concentrate when exercising on an empty stomach, then eat/drink something before exercising.

The results will be the same, according to numerous studies on fasting and exercise.

Does eating dairy products affect the risk of developing type 2 diabetes?

This study suggests that including low fat dairy products in your diet might help REDUCE the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

This study is a systematic review and meta-analyses, a.k.a a summary of lots of studies. This type of research study helps us understand a topic better by putting together all the pieces of the research puzzle.

The researchers aimed to see if there's a connection between eating dairy products and the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

They found that most of these studies suggest that eating dairy products, especially low-fat ones like milk and yogurt, might actually lower the risk of getting type 2 diabetes.

The more you eat, the lower the risk seems to be. For example, eating yogurt or low-fat dairy products regularly was linked to a lower chance of getting type 2 diabetes. Cheese also seemed to have some effect, but not as strong as yogurt and low-fat dairy.

If you are looking for ways of lowering your chances of getting type 2 diabetes, as a dietitian I encourage you to:

โœ…๏ธ Eat adequate amounts of fiber, protein and healthy fats
โœ…๏ธ Avoid overconsumption of refined carbohydrates
โœ…๏ธ Include low fat dairy products in your diet

I apply these to my nutrition coaching program but only for clients who want to try IF.

I am not against any fad diet provided that they are not in conflict with clients' health conditions, and clients are guided by nutrition and medical professionals to ensure safety and sustainability.

itโ€™s useless if you consume large amounts of protein but your carbohydrate intake is too low.

You need the right amount of carbs, protein, and calories to support a well planned resistance training program.

Getting enough protein is important, but make sure that you also maintain macronutrient balance.
