As we celebrate the 127th year of our independence, we pay tribute to the heroes whose courage and vision gave birth to our freedom. Pride is not all just about rainbows and celebrations. It’s not just about parades, music festivals, or vibrant colors—Pride is a strong reminder of the ongoing fight for equality, civil rights, and visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride began as a protest on the streets in the ‘70s—a call for equality, human rights, and against discrimination of the LGBTQIA+ community. The world has become more tolerant of the community, but stories of shaming, blatant misgendering, and hate crimes against the LGBTQ community are still rampant in today’s time. Tolerance for the LGBTQIA+ community is not enough. It is the acceptance of the community as respected individuals among the common commonfolk that the community seeks.

In the deeply rooted religious conservatism of the Philippine community, the LGBTQIA+ community in the country continues to fight for equality and the rights of the community, with the SOGIESC Bill being at the forefront of these calls for equality and anti-discrimination.

Despite its initial proposal in 2000, the SOGIE Bill has yet to become a law. The conservatism of most Filipinos and the misconceptions about the bill have caused this delay over the past 25 years. The SOGIE Bill is not a bill that protects only the LGBTQIA+, but instead, it is a law that protects everyone from discrimination related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.

As we celebrate Pride Month 2025, this is a call to all legislators and the Congress to and create . Pride is inclusive for everyone who is out and flamboyant, questioning or experimenting, and especially for those who are closeted. You are loved, seen, and acknowledged. To everyone in the LGBTQIA+ community who has struggled and is still struggling with self-identity, let Pride be a symbol and a voice of the experiences of the community.

We, UP ALCHEMES, stand proud together with the LGBTQIA+ in its fight for equality and against discrimination.

Sa paggunita ng Araw ng Paggawa, ating kinikilala ang taos-pusong paglilingkod ng bawat manggagawang Pilipino na tulad ng oblation ay inaalay ang sarili para sa pamilya at para sa bayan.

Ang oblation ay isang matayog na simbolo ng serbisyo at sakripisyo—dalawang katangian na ipinapakita ng ating mga manggagawa sa kanilang araw-araw na pagharap sa buhay. Bukas-palad nilang inihahandog ang kanilang oras, lakas, at talino upang suportahan ang pamilya, itaas ang ekonomiya, at paunlarin ang bansa. Nasasalamin ng kanilang tahimik na pagkilos ang diwang makabayan—ang dakilang adhikain na maitaas ang antas ng pamumuhay ng bawat Pilipino, at pagbibigay pag-asa para sa isang mas maunlad na hinaharap.

Tunay ngang maituturing na makabagong bayani ang ating mga manggagawa. Subalit hindi dapat natatapos sa pagbibigay-pugay ang ating pagpapahalaga sa kanilang serbisyo at sakripisyo. Ang pagpupugay ay higit na maipapakita sa pamamagitan ng pagkilala, paggalang, at pagprotekta sa kanilang mga karapatan laban sa mapang-aping sistema. Ipaglaban ang panawagan sa pagbibigay ng makatarungang sahod, at siguraduhin ang makataong estado ng paggawa. Sapagkat sa bawat hakbang ng ating pakikibaka ay patuloy nating itinataas ang antas ng bawat manggagawang Pilipino.

𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒘 𝒏𝒈 𝑲𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒏!

On this Day of Valor, we remember the 76,000 Filipino soldiers, along with their American allies, who surrendered to the Japanese troops and were compelled to endure unimaginable suffering during the Bataan Death March in 1942. Marching under the scorching sun on a 100-km hike, they suffered numerous brutality, starvation, dehydration, and diseases before reaching the camp. Their sacrifices remind us of the price of freedom—a price paid with blood, sweat, tears, and the lives of countless heroes.

As we reflect on this somber chapter of our history, we must recognize that the battle for justice, sovereignty, and democracy continues. Eighty-three years later, we continue to witness the denial of basic rights and dignity for our people, as injustices persist in various forms. Let the memory of the heroism of those who came before us inspire us to stand united, vigilant, and determined to defend our rights, our land, and our future. May we continue to honor their sacrifices by fighting for a better tomorrow for all Filipinos.
