Last Sunday at Asian Hospital and Medical Center, Dr. Roy Habito successfully tackled one of the most challenging venous cases — a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) at the common iliac, further complicated by extrinsic compression from a tumor on the external iliac vein.

Iliac DVTs are already notorious: resistant, high-risk, and often debilitating. With tumor compression in the mix, restoring flow becomes even more complex.

On August 17, a patient in Bacolod suffered a life-threatening pulmonary embolism (PE), a silent killer that clogs the lungs with clots and puts immense strain on the heart.

Survival hinged on immediate action, with every minute making the difference between life and death.

The hospital in Bacolod quickly coordinated and referred the case to the country’s first and only Pulmonary Embolism Response Team (PERT) at ManilaMed. The patient was flown in by air ambulance to Manila, where the team was standing by.
