The Nursing Service, VLGH recently conducted a seminar-workshop last 18 November 2024 entitled: “Quality Improvement in healthcare: Putting into Practice” which aimed to further equip nurses with the utilization of systematic process of Quality Improvement in healthcare by utilizing Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA), and QI Essential Tool kits.
This activity brought together three esteemed professors, BGEN IRMA I ALMONEDA NC (Ret), Mr Laurence Llord Parial, PhD, RN and Ms Aprille C. Banayat, MAN, RN.

The lecture proper was started by BGEN ALMONEDA NC (Ret) and she thoroughly discussed the Patient Safety concerns and focused her topic on the 14 Points of Deming. A brief discussion was delivered by Dr Parial before they started the 1st workshop session wherein the participants were grouped into six and completed a task. The afternoon discussion was started by Ms Banayat MAN, RN followed by the 2nd workshop session. In this activity, the participants were asked to create a cause-and-effect and a driver diagram. Each group also presented their outputs to the speakers and was critiqued for further improvement.

This seminar-workshop is part of the Nursing Service, VLMC endeavor on Continuous Quality Improvement that equips professionals with necessary tools and knowledge. And by putting these principles into practice, it cultivates a culture of excellence, innovation and advancement on quality patient care.

As the saying goes, “teamwork makes the dream works,” the Nursing Service, V Luna Medical Center headed by COL MA NIEVA L MANTILLA NC (GSC), is thrilled to announce the success of our recently concluded case study presentation, showcasing the power of teamwork and expertise across 20 vital clinical areas. This achievement demonstrates the utmost dedication of our Nursing Service in fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth; enhancing patient outcomes through shared expertise; integrating evidence-based practices and latest research; and delivering excellent and compassionate patient care. The case study presentation started last 04 June 2024 with ward 4A (Neurosurgery Ward) as the first presentor and ended with ward 7A (Male Medical Ward) last 07 November 2024. In 2023, top three (3) outstanding presentors were exempted in the case study for this year, namely: Medical ICU, Infectious Ward, and Operating Room Service. Each case presented was a reflective story of our patients’ lives that became a meaningful learning experience for the presentors and likewise for the panelists headed by COL ANNALIZA U YANTO NC (GSC) along with her Area Supervisors and CHR Flordeliza Gagan Nurse IV. This achievement is dedicated to our beloved patients and their families who willingly shared their personal lives for us to gain a better understanding of their illness so we can enhance our nursing care to them.

Celebrating Excellence: The Closing Ceremony of the Nursing Service VLMC Mentoring Program, Class 02-2024

Mentorship is essential to the personal and professional growth of every young Nurse Corps officer.

The Closing Ceremony of the Nursing Service VLMC Mentoring Program, Class 02-2024, was held last 30 September 2024, with COL MA NIEVA L MANTILLA NC (GSC), Chief, Nursing Service, serving as the keynote speaker. COL MICHELLE M IBUNA NC (GSC), the Head, Department of Nursing Education and Training, opened the event with her welcome remarks.

The program, guided by MAJ MELCHOR Y CANIEDO NC as Course Director, consisted of 9 Probationary second Lieutenants, commenced in the first week of June and spanned 16 weeks, during which time the remarkable transformation of these officers was observed. Coming from various regions and family backgrounds, they shared one unifying passion: to care for others and positively impact patients' lives.

Throughout the program, the mentees, along with their mentors and training directorates, embarked on a journey of learning, growth, and skill-building. As this phase of their military careers comes to an end, a new chapter begins. These officers are now equipped with the essential knowledge and standards, not only as nurses but also as military personnel.

They are ready to take on leadership roles within the Nurse Corps, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and their communities.

To the graduates, keep pushing your boundaries and strive for excellence! Once again, Congratulations!

The Nursing Service, VLMC under the leadership of COL MA. NIEVA L MANTILLA NC (GSC), Chief, Nursing Service, spearheaded the conduct of Case Managers Seminar-workshop on Strengthening Case Management through Nursing Care Plans

Last 17 Sept 2024, case managers from various wards attended a highly anticipated seminar workshop entitled "Strengthening Case Management through Nursing Care Plan” at the DNET Auditorium. The event resource lecturer, Ms Manatiga RN IV, focused on enhancing case management practices through the integration of more efficient and patient-centered nursing care plans.

She emphasized the importance of aligning care plans with patient needs, improving communication between healthcare teams, and organized workflows. Attendees participated in hands-on sessions, as they were required to come up with five nursing care plans that is based on their wards. They interactively discussed their best practices, exchanged insights and their NCPs were critiqued by Ms Manatiga along with the other attendees to ensure better patient outcomes.

The event concluded with a guidance from COL YANTO NC (GSC), the Head, Department of Patient Care Services.

This seminar-workshop was conducted to enhance case management processes in VLMC, ultimately benefiting both the healthcare providers and patients alike.
