Trigger finger occurs when the tendon in your finger can’t glide smoothly through its tunnel (A1 pulley) due to thickening from chronic inflammation.

This causes the finger to get stuck in a bent position and then snaps straight, resulting in progressive pain and disability.

Surgical release can be done if symptoms do not improve with conservative treatment (splints, NSAIDs, steroid injection).

If you have trigger finger, consult your board-certified orthopaedic surgeon for proper management.

🧒🏻 After age 30, the body breaks down bone more quickly than it can replace it.

🦴 Over the years, this gradual bone loss can lead to osteoporosis, a condition where bones become weak, porous and brittle. It has no symptoms until a fracture occurs after a low-impact injury.

🧓🏻 It commonly affects older adults (50+) and women after menopause. Other risk factors include smoking, alcohol overuse, long-term steroid use, low BMI and a sedentary lifestyle.

⚠️ What can we do about it? We treat it.

💉 Denosumab is a monoclonal antibody that stops bone loss, regaining stronger and denser bones. It is injected subcutaneously once every 6 months and lowers the risk of fragility fractures.

🩼 If you think you may be at risk for osteoporosis, consult your Orthopaedic doctor for proper assessment and management.

✅ Prevention is always better than cure.

Girl power at the OR 👸🏻

My patient sustained a both-bone forearm fracture with a distal radioulnar joint dislocation following a motor vehicular crash.

The surgical team from L to R comprised of anesthesiologist Dr. Vivar-Estavillo, myself & surgery resident Dr. Pal-palatoc. Open reduction, internal fixation with plates & screws was done, followed by percutaneous pinning of the distal radioulnar joint.

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a platelet concentrate prepared from the patient’s blood. When injected into damaged tissues, it reduces inflammation, enhances cell regeneration and accelerates healing through bioactive growth factors released by the platelets.
