How to treat a dystonic cerebral palsy child? How to help them to have a better future?
CP dystonic children are often:
• Quite FLOPPY but then suddenly develop STIFFNESS or SPASM.
• Twisting and repetitive movements ( twisted head and body )
• the two sides of the body are not the same ( one side of the limbs is straight and the other side is flexed)
• emotionally unstable ( like with their body tone which switches from being stiff to sudden floppy, their emotion can be extreme anger to happy to no reaction at all)
• and due to postural asymmetry ( the other side has a stronger tone than the other side), often it can lead to deformities like SCOLIOSIS, HIP SUBLUXATION/DISLOCATION and CONTRACTURES ( stiff joints and muscles)
• Unorganised movements
• If the abnormal movement patterns of the child fail to be addressed properly, they will become embedded into his brain and the abnormal movement patterns will just become more stronger and difficult to manage.
How to treat these problems and have better coordination and control of their movements? How to prevent further serious problems or serious complications?
