Mental health is not tangible. We never truly know what someone is going through until they find the courage to seek support. Please take this seriously—mental health conditions are not something people simply choose to have. There are several factors that may contribute to a person’s struggles.

This is a gentle reminder to educate ourselves before we speak. Our words hold power, and we may never realize how deeply they can affect someone.

We all have our own battles to fight. May we always choose empathy and offer support with compassion. 🤍

Thank you to the Psychology Student Council of Lyceum Northwestern University for inviting me to serve as your resource person for your Psychological First Aid webinar. It was truly an honor to be part of your World Mental Health Awareness Month celebration.

May we all continue to extend compassion and empathy, especially in moments when others need support the most. 🩷

🌪️ Calamities & Natural Disasters are unpredictable.

Children experience disasters differently from adults because their sense of safety, control, and understanding of events are still developing. Their reactions depend on age, developmental level, personality, previous experiences, and the reactions of caregivers around them.

While having “Go Bags” ready is essential for our physical safety, we also need to prepare emotionally and mentally. Disasters don’t just shake our surroundings — they can deeply affect our sense of security, especially in children.

Key Takeaway:
💡 Children look to adults as emotional anchors. How parents/caregivers react greatly shapes children’s recovery.
💡 Calm, supportive, and reassuring behavior fosters resilience.
💡 Children are naturally resilient when they are heard, comforted, and guided through their emotions.
💡Recovery begins with a caring adult who helps them feel safe again.

🌱 Pause. Breathe. Feel.

Today, October 10th of 2025 is World Mental Health Day — it reminds us that mental health is just as real and vital as physical health. Let us care for our minds with the same compassion we give to others. 🩷

This talk was made approximately a year ago—and I never thought I’d be sharing it again for the same heartbreaking reason.

It’s devastating to see how the earthquake has once again impacted the lives of so many in Cebu. My heart goes out to those who have lost their loved ones, and I am extending my deepest sympathies to every grieving family.

If you are in need of emotional support, please know that I am here—virtually—with an open heart, willing to listen and help however I can.

May all those affected by this disaster receive the urgent help, strength, and support they truly deserve. 🤍
