HIV CASES SA MGA EDAD 15–25 SA BANSA, TUMAAS NG 500%; DOH, NAIS IDEKLARA ITONG NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY

Umakyat ng 500% ang kaso ng human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) sa bansa sa mga kabataang Pilipino na may edad 15 hanggang 25 ayon sa Department of Health (DOH).

Dahil dito, inirekomenda ni DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa na ideklara ang HIV bilang isang National Public Health Emergency upang mapalawak ang pagtugon ng pamahalaan sa lumalalang sitwasyon.

Ayon pa kay Sec Herbosa, hindi Monkeypox ang mas dapat ikabahala kun'di ang mabilis na pagtaas ng kaso ng HIV sa bansa.

Batay sa datos ng DOH, mula Enero hanggang Marso 2025, umaabot sa 57 ang naitatalang bagong kaso ng HIV kada araw, mas mataas kumpara sa 21 kaso kada araw noong 2014.

Inihayag ni Sec Herbosa na nangunguna na ang Pilipinas sa may pinakamaraming bagong kaso ng HIV sa buong Western Pacific Region.

Aniya, posibleng umabot sa mahigit 400,000 ang bilang ng mga taong may HIV sa bansa kung hindi ito agad maagapan, kung saan noong 2024 ay umabot na sa 215,000 ang bilang ng mga taong nabubuhay na may HIV.

Payo ng kalihim sa publiko na magpa-HIV test o kaya naman ay gumamit ng self-test kits, iminumungkahi rin nito ang paggamit ng combination prevention method gaya ng condom, lubricants, at Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).

Para naman sa mga positibo, pinapayuhan ang patuloy na pag-inom ng antiretroviral therapy (ART) na sakop na rin ng PhilHealth. (Jovy Andres)

January - March 2025 | HIV Cases in the Philippines

According to the data provided, a total of 5,101 HIV cases were recorded in the country from January to March 2025. The age group 25-34 years old had the highest number of cases, with 2,491 reported, followed by 1,686 cases among individuals aged 15-24. During this period, 4,658 People Living with HIV (PLHIV) underwent Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). Additionally, 145 reported deaths were recorded, bringing the total reported deaths to 9,221 from January 1984 to March 2025.
