The tamarind tree is much prized in many parts of the world for its beauty and its fruit. Tamarinds are leguminous trees because they produce fruit in the form of a bean-like pod. This bean contains a sour pulp that becomes very sweet as it ripens. People eat the fruit raw and also use its pulp in cooking.

The leaves, beans, bark, and wood of the tamarind tree have a wide variety of uses. Tamarind is an ingredient in Worcestershire sauce and is used in many dishes in Asia, South and Central America, Africa, and the Caribbean. It appears in many chutneys, sauces, candies, and drinks.

Amino acids, the building blocks of protein, are necessary for the body to grow and repair tissues. Some amino acids are essential, meaning that the body can't synthesize them, so people must get them from food. Tamarind contains significant amounts of all the essential amino acids except tryptophan. It meets the standards of the World Health Organization for an ideal protein for the other amino acids. Researchers are unsure, however, how well the body can absorb all the nutrients found in tamarind.

Every woman should know how her breasts usually look and feel, so she can recognize any changes that may occur. “While knowing what to look for is essential, a woman should still get her regular mammograms and clinical breast exams, as these tests can help detect breast cancer before she even has symptoms.

Signs of breast cancer may include:

👉Lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).
👉Swelling or thickening of all or part of the breast.
👉Dimpling or skin irritation of breast skin.
👉Localized, persistent breast pain.
👉Redness, scaliness, or thickening of the ni**le or breast skin.
👉Nipple discharge (other than breast milk).
👉Any change in the size or shape of the breast.

If you notice one of these signs please seek for assistance and advice on what to do.
Prevention is better than cure! Check your breast!

World Rabies Day 2022

28 September this year will mark the 16th World Rabies Day. This year’s theme ‘Rabies: One Health, Zero Deaths’ will highlight the connection of the environment with both people and animals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the stark vulnerabilities of health systems but it also demonstrated what collaboration across sectors can achieve.

Rabies control programmes offer a great example for One Health implementation and the structures and trust that underpin these are crucial for other zoonotic diseases, including those that are pandemic-prone.
