March is designated as Rabies Awareness Month, a nationwide campaign dedicated to educating the public on the prevention and control of rabies, a deadly but preventable viral disease.

In support of this important initiative, DGTHMC actively joined the celebration by conducting a comprehensive health education session led by nurses from the Animal Bite Treatment Center.

The program emphasized key preventive measures such as timely vaccination of pets, proper wound care following animal bites, and immediate medical consultation. Furthermore, the session reinforced the importance of responsible pet ownership, including regular veterinary care and community awareness, as essential components in rabies prevention.

Through this coordinated effort, DGTHMC aims to empower the community with practical knowledge and proactive habits to reduce the risk of rabies transmission and protect the well-being of both humans and animals.

It's another Purple Wednesday at DGTHMC!

In commemoration of the Women's Month celebration, DGTHMC joins the nationwide movement by encouraging everyone to wear purple- a vibrant symbol of unity, empowerment and support for gender inclusivity.

Dr. Michael Angelo H. Filoteo gave a lecture on RA 11313

The Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act No. 11313), also known as the "Bawal Bastos Law," is a Philippine law prohibiting gender-based sexual harassment in public spaces, workplaces, schools, and online. It covers offenses like catcalling, misogynistic slurs, and cyberstalking, providing fines, community service, or jail time depending on the offense's severity and frequency.

The law defines gender-based sexual harassment as acts committed through unwanted and uninvited sexual actions or remarks, regardless of the motive.

The lecture was followed by a team building activity and raffle draw.

DGTHMC actively joined the celebration of National Women’s Month by organizing a series of collective lectures focused on various laws that safeguard and promote women’s rights.

These educational sessions, led by DGTHMC’s dedicated social workers, aimed to raise awareness about legal protections and empower women to understand and assert their rights. The lectures were held in line with this year’s inspiring theme,
“𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀, 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘀!”—a tribute to the strength, leadership, and resilience of Filipina women, drawing inspiration from the historic role of babaylans as community leaders and advocates.

Through these efforts, DGTHMC underscores its commitment to fostering gender equality, encouraging women’s empowerment, and celebrating the vital contributions of women to society.

The 2026 National Women’s Month (NWMC) held from March 1-31, 2026, centers on the theme “Lead Like the Babaylans, Filipinas. The theme reaffirm that women’s leadership is a fundamental part of Filipino identity—just as in the time of the revered Babaylans, when women held influence and authority equal to men. It highlights the distinctive leadership qualities of Babaylans—women leaders in pre-colonial Philippines whose authority was grounded in wisdom, empathy, mediation, and moral guidance rather than force or hierarchy.
Navigating the complexities of patient needs and providing compassionate care, DGTHMC personnel are living proof of how traditional values of cultural empathy and wisdom can transform professional expertise to modern public service. Our healthcare workers are the “modern Babaylans” – healers who prioritize the dignity of every patient. Our dedication to humanizing the healthcare system perfectly captures the essence of this year's theme, "Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!"

The Fire drill exercises and earthquake preparedness orientation held on February 19, 2026 was successfully conducted with full participation from the DGTHMC management and hospital personnel.

This activity aimed to train hospital personnel on proper safety responses, practice evacuation procedures, and minimize panic during emergencies.

During the drill, personnel promptly executed the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” procedure and proceeded to the designated evacuation area in an orderly manner. Overall, the activity achieved its objectives of enhancing emergency preparedness, promoting safety awareness, and reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to the welfare of its employees and continuity of operations during emergencies.

We are very grateful to the Bureau of Fire and Protection – Ipil Fire Station, headed by the Municipal Fire Marshal, FSINSP ATTY. HERMAN I TING, CE, MPA for the annual conduct of this activity.

We remember the Founding Father of Zamboanga Sibugay, our first governor, the late Dr. George T. Hofer, whose very name is etched in this medical institution. His unwavering leadership and resilience opened the door to progress for future generations.
Last February 26, 2026, we celebrated his birthday and distributed hygiene kits to OPD, ER, and inpatient admitted patients.
These gifts were made possible by our generous donors from Unilver Phils through the efforts of Ms. Doris Santiago. Diapers were donated by Gov. Ann Hofer's cousins.
