JANUARY IS GLAUCOMA AWARENESS MONTH
Glaucoma is a leading cause of vision loss and blindness all over the world. Glaucoma has no early symptoms — that's why half of people with glaucoma don't know they have it. The only way to check for glaucoma is to get a comprehensive dilated eye exam.
Maintaining a healthy weight, controlling your blood pressure, being physically active, are just some of the healthy behaviors that will help you avoid vision loss from glaucoma.
Increasing evidence indicates that natural compounds with antioxidative value such as gingko biloba, red wine, and cacao have beneficial effects in glaucoma treatment. Studies have shown that young adults eating dark chocolate had enhanced visual performance, as cocoa in dark chocolate increases blood flow to the brain and retina.
