THE SECOND THING YOU NEED TO LEARN TO AVOID RECURRENCE OF CANCER IS TO USE FOOD AS MEDICINE.
How much and how often do you feed yourself junk food? You get calories more than what you actually need so that you gain weight, How would you like to start your journey from junk food to real food? As the father of Modern Medicine, Hippocrates said,
" Let food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.
The World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) is a not-for-profit association dedicated to fund research and education programs into the links between food, nutrition, physical activity and cancer prevention. The WCRF has developed eight personal recommendations based on an in-depth analysis of more than 7000 scientific studies on cancer prevention for the past 50 years. Here are some of the recommendations:
The first recommendation is to be as lean as possible within the normal range of body weight based on the body mass index (BMI). In the Shanghai Breast Cancer Study of 1455 patients aged 25-64, being overweight at diagnosis or soon afterward was associated with poorer overall survival and disease-free survival. Thus, a whole food plant-based diet is recommended to maintain a healthy body weight.
Another recommendation is to limit the consumption of energy-dense food and avoid sugary drinks. Eat at least five portions/servings (at least 14 oz or 400 grams) of a variety of fruits and vegetables daily and limit refined starchy food. Instead eat relatively unprocessed grains and/or legumes with every meal.
Other recommendations are to limit intake of red meat and avoid processed meat as well as limit alcoholic drinks. However, the Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) strongly recommends to abstain from or avoid alcohol. Likewise, the WCRF also said to limit consumption of salt. Thus, avoid salt-preserved, salted or salty foods. Instead foods should be bought fresh, stored and preserved without using salt. However, when choosing canned foods like canned vegetables such as beans to prepare quick healthy meals, look for the one with the lowest-salt content and rinse the food well before using to remove as much salt as possible.
Choose to meet the nutritional needs through diet alone so dietary supplements are not recommended for cancer prevention. The WCRF found evidences that in certain instances, high-dose nutrient supplements can be protective against or can increase the risk of cancer and thus should not be used indiscriminately.
