When I work with my clients, I always think about how important the food system is, and how nutrition is tied to the overall development of our country.
You can’t expect people to “eat better” if:
🚫 Healthy food is too expensive
🚫 They live far from a grocery
🚫 They don’t have time to cook after working two jobs
🚫 They don’t have a fridge or a safe place to store or prepare food
🚫 They never learned how to cook, shop for food, or lack nutrition education
This is why food security matters. Because until everyone has consistent access to affordable, nutritious food, telling people to “just be disciplined” or “just eat healthy” is unhelpful and pretty unfair.
This year’s Nutrition Month subtheme is:
Food at Nutrition Security, Maging Priority! Sapat na Pagkain, Karapatan Natin!
(Food and nutrition security must be a priority! Access to sufficient food is our right!)
It’s true that our food and nutrition landscape can be challenging—modern life leaves little time to cook, and accessibility is limited, especially with gaps in agricultural policy.
As regular citizens, there are still ways we can help. Supporting better nutrition, food security, and accessibility affects not just individual health, but the future of our country. At the very least, we can keep the conversation going, especially this 💙🇵🇭
