LIVER CANCER & VIRAL HEPATITIS PREVENTION MONTH

You can lower your risk for developing liver cancer by following healthy lifestyle measures, such as regular exercise, controlling your weight, and eating a healthy diet with limited amounts of alcohol. It's also important to avoid infection with the hepatitis B and C viruses.

best prevention is to avoid sharing needles, which can transfer small amounts of blood from one person to another. Contact with anything that has contaminated blood on it—such as a tissue, a bandage, or hands and fingers—can spread the virus. Safe s*x and good hygiene can also protect you from infection.

Our Story

The unabated increase in population and unprecedented economic boom during the last decade of the year 1900, compounded with lack of space for housing facilities and business enterprises, resulted in the relocation of families and business establishments outside Metro Manila to the adjacent suburban Eastern Rizal. As economic progress continued, transportation infrastructures and facilities lagged behind, creating a monster of congestion in all the roads leading to Metro Manila. Immediate access to a premiere tertiary hospital was therefore a foreseen predicament. This prompted a group of 21 professionals to conceptualize building a modern tertiary hospital within the locality of eastern Rizal to comprehensively service the health needs of the community.

Year 2001 was a picture of political and economic instability; nevertheless, the group of 21 professionals wasted no time in forming a corporation, seeing the urgency of putting up a modern state-of-the-art health care facility in Eastern Rizal. Manila East Medical Center, Inc. was conceived and formally incorporated on May 16, 2001. Construction of the hospital commenced in August 2001 in a strategic location near the bustling cross-road of Ortigas Ave. Extension and Manila East Road, in Tikling of boomtown Taytay. The hospital was elegantly designed with features and ambiance of a luxury hotel. Belief in the worthiness of the project made for a compelling investment for many practicing doctors and lay investors despite the economic slowdown. The hospital was inaugurated on August 18, 2002 and subsequently opened with an initial 40 bed capacity. Now, it has expanded to accommodate more than 100 patients.

Manila East Medical Center (MEMC) has a complete line of certified specialists, about 160, both medical and dental, whose expertise will considerably benefit the clients. The hospital is manned by competent and trained ancillary staff. It likewise has essential laboratory facilities, a diagnostic section with X-ray, CT Scan, Ultrasound and 2D ECHO. It also has Laparoscopy and Endoscopy instruments and other necessary equipment of a modern tertiary hospital. There are 5 operating rooms, 2 delivery rooms, NICU, ICU, Dialysis and Physical Rehabilitation sections. The emergency section is spacious and departmentalized, with an emergency physician specialist on duty everyday.

Today, MEMC stands on the threshold of a bright new promise. Having religiously instituted its foremost concern of an efficient, reliable and cost-effective delivery of health care services to the utmost satisfaction of the clientele, more patients are patronizing the hospital. The out-patient department has a ten-fold increase in patient census since the opening. With this highly encouraging event, the management is looking forward to expanding the hospital and its facilities to fully service the health needs of the community.
