LABOR AND DELIVERY

"Labor" and "delivery" describe the process of childbirth. Contractions of the uterus and changes in the cervix (the opening of the uterus) prepare a woman's body to give birth. Then the baby is born, and the placenta follows.

Labor happens in four stages:
First stage: Dilation of the cervix (mouth of the uterus)
Second stage: Delivery of the baby.
Third stage: Afterbirth where you push out the placenta.
Fourth stage: Recovery.

The third trimester is the last phase of your pregnancy. It lasts from weeks 29 to 40, or months 7, 8, and 9. During this trimester, your baby grows, develops, and starts to change position to get ready for birth. Now that you've reached the third trimester, you're in the home stretch of your pregnancy.
The fetus is continuing to grow in weight and size, and the body systems finish maturing. You may feel more uncomfortable now as you continue to gain weight and begin to have false labor contractions (called Braxton-Hicks contractions).

Second Trimester of Pregnancy

The second trimester of your pregnancy lasts from week 13 to 28, or months 4, 5, and 6. It's the middle phase of pregnancy, when you may start to see your “baby bump” and feel your baby move for the first time.
Fetal development during the second trimester includes the following: The fetus kicks, moves and can turn from side to side. The eyes have been gradually moving to the front of the face, and the ears have moved from the neck to the sides of the head. The fetus can hear your voice.
