What are Sexually Transmitted Disease? Or STDs? Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), also known as s*xually transmitted infections (STIs), are very common. Millions of new infections occur every year in the United States. STDs pass from one person to another through vaginal, oral, and a**l s*x.
What are the ways we can prevent/avoid STDs?
Sexually transmitted infections can be prevented and controlled through three basic strategies: reducing the risk of transmission in any s*xual encounter (such as condom use); reducing the rate of s*xual partner change; and reducing the period of infectiousness in individuals. Using a condom correctly every time you have s*x can help you avoid STDs. Condoms lessen the risk of infection for all STDs. You still can get certain STDs, like herpes or HPV, from contact with your partner's skin even when using a condom.
