The Philippines has surged back into the top 20 globally, climbing five places to rank 20th out of 148 countries on the World Economic Forumโ€™s (WEF) 2025 Global Gender Gap Report, released in June 2025. With an overall gender parity score of 78.1 percentโ€”a 0.2-point improvement from 77.9 percent in 2024โ€”the nation reasserts its leadership as Asiaโ€™s most genderโ€‘equal country, and ranks third in the East Asia and the Pacific region, behind New Zealand and Australia.

As the nation commemorates the 127th anniversary of Philippine Independence, the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) honors the countless Filipino women whose stories of resilience, courage, and sacrifice helped shape our nationโ€™s freedom and continue to inspire the pursuit of peace in our daily lives. The story of our independence is incomplete without recognizing the vital role of Filipino women. Their enduring legacy calls us to build a nation worthy of their strugglesโ€”one where peace is not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice, dignity, and equality for all.

From the women of the revolution, to those who rose during the Japanese occupation, to all Filipino women of yesterday and today who foughtโ€”and continue to fightโ€”for genuine freedom and lasting peace, their stories remain central to our collective journey.
