The American Diabetes Association (ADA) releases annual guidelines for diabetes care.
key differences b/w the 2024 & 2023 guidelines in bullet points:

2024 Updates:

- Emphasis on personalized care and shared decision-making
- New recommendations for glucose-lowering therapies in type 2DM
- Revised blood pressure targets (≤130/80 mmHg)
- Updated screening guidelines for diabetic kidney disease
- Increased focus on mental health and diabetes distress
- New section on diabetes and cardiovascular disease
- Revised recommendations for hypoglycemia management

Key differences:

- 2024: More emphasis on individualized care and patient-centered approach
- 2023: More focus on general guidelines and population-based recommendations
- 2024: New recommendations for SGLT-2 inhibitors & GLP-1 receptor agonists
- 2023: More emphasis on metformin as first-line therapy
- 2024: Revised blood pressure targets & updated screening guidelines
- 2023: Less emphasis on mental health and diabetes distress

Standards of Diabetes Care:

- 2024 : Emphasizes comprehensive care, including lifestyle management, glucose monitoring, and pharmacological therapy
- 2023 : Focuses on evidence-based guidelines for diabetes diagnosis, classification, and treatment.
