🌸 Explanation – Truth About Mother’s Milk
Mother’s milk is not only nourishment — it is a natural instinct deeply tied with emotions, nerves, diet, and health. Just as body fluids and emotional sensitivity (ذکاوت حس) affect a woman’s health, they also influence the increase or decrease of milk.
It has often been observed that mothers who are overly attached to their children produce more milk. This attachment is not always true love, but sometimes an emotional obsession. Such mothers keep feeding and protecting their children excessively, to the point where the child may become weak or sick because of overfeeding and lack of discipline. When these mothers become angry, they may even punish the child harshly, only to regret and cry afterward — showing that this excessive emotional sensitivity controls the milk flow. In fact, whenever the child cries, the milk begins to flow more.
This natural instinct is not limited to humans but also found in animals. For example, when cows or goats are milked, the calf is kept nearby or allowed to drink a little milk first. If the calf dies, the mother’s milk often decreases. In some rare cases, even a grandmother (or in extreme love, even a father) has been able to produce milk for an orphaned child. Such phenomena occur due to deep emotional attachment or extraordinary sensitivity of the nerves.
On the other hand, many modern women deliberately stop breastfeeding. Some fear that their youth or body shape will be affected; others stop due to jobs, fashion, or social life. Teachers, nurses, doctors, clerks, actresses, athletes, and military women are especially mentioned because their muscular and nervous systems harden with work and exercise. This causes loss of tenderness, love, and sensitivity, and gradually their natural maternal feelings decline.
Another harmful custom — found among wealthy families since old times — is giving children to wet nurses or maids. This not only harms the mother’s health by stopping her natural milk but also exposes the child to the diseases and bad habits of the wet nurse. The morals, character, and health of a maid can never equal those of the real mother.
The correct natural rule is that a mother should feed her child with her own milk for two full years. In the beginning, the child should be fed every two hours, later extending the gap to four hours. If milk is less, diet and herbal medicines can help increase it. If milk is excessive, efforts should be made to bring it to balance, as overproduction can cause diseases like inflammation of the glands.
Unfortunately, many women start giving cow or buffalo milk, or nowadays powdered/tinned milk, within the first two years. Both practices are dangerous — they weaken the child’s digestion and organs, leading to chronic sickness, tuberculosis, heart weakness, and brain disorders. Children raised only on mother’s milk for two years grow up healthier, stronger, and often live longer.
Some mothers mix their milk with buffalo milk, cream, or sweets to make the child get used to other foods quickly. But doing this before two years is harmful. Only when weaning time comes should goat milk be introduced first, then cow/buffalo milk, followed by light foods like porridge and rice. Gradually, solid foods can be added in small amounts.
There is also a strong relationship between menstruation and milk. Sometimes when menstruation stops (due to pregnancy or without pregnancy), milk production begins in the breasts, often causing pain. Similarly, young girls at puberty may feel gland pain or discharge due to awakening of emotional and physical sensitivity.
Milk deficiency may be caused by poor diet, weakness, anemia, poverty, or fasting. In contrast, chronic nervous or brain diseases can cause excessive milk flow. Muscle weakness, dryness, and glandular problems may also lead to reduced or blocked milk.
