Herpes Zoster (Shingles rash) generally affects only one side of the body, and typically forms a band across the skin. Shingles most commonly affects the torso or chest. But it can develop just about anywhere, like on your arms, head or face. Sometimes it can also affect your eyes or ears.
Before the rash breaks out you usually feel tired and run-down. You may also have a slight fever and tingling sensations under your skin. The typical symptoms of shingles start 2 or 3 days later:
- moderate to severe stinging or burning pain in the affected area,
-followed by slightly reddish patches of skin with small bumps,
-which then turn into small blisters that may be itchy in just a few hours.

Common types of fungal infections
There are 1.5 million species of fungi on earth. Fortunately, only about 300 of them are known to cause concern in humans. The most common types that affect the skin are:
Ringworm (tinea corporis) – This fungal infection usually starts as a red, itchy, and scaly rash, forming a partial or full red ring over a period of time. It is typically found on the body or scalp. Ringworm is not actually a worm; it is a fungal infection generally originating from contact with animals, infected persons, or environmental sources.
Ringworm is especially common in wrestlers.
Jock itch (tinea cruris) – This type of itchy fungal infection affects the groin. The warmth and moisture of this area makes a good breeding ground for fungus.
Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) – Typically found between the toes or in a moccasin-like distribution on the soles, athlete’s foot causes itching, peeling, or scaling of the skin. It is often acquired from locker room floors or shared footwear.
Tinea versicolor – These light or dark colored spots, often resembling a rash, can form all over the body. This is a yeast (which is a type of fungus) infection, especially common in young adults on the chest, shoulders, and upper back.
Toenail Fungus (Onychomycosis) – This common fungal infection causes nails to become discolored and misshapen. Toenail fungus is often recurring and painful.

Tenea Versicolor:
Tinea versicolor can cause the skin to appear lighter, darker, or redder than the surrounding unaffected skin, and it commonly affects the chest or back because these areas have the greatest number of sebaceous glands. Tinea versicolor may also involve the upper arms, neck, and face. Lighter patches of tinea versicolor are often noticed during the summer months, when the affected areas fail to tan compared with nearby unaffected tanned skin. Scales, or flakes of the outer layer of skin, are often seen as well. Tinea versicolor usually causes no symptoms, but itching occurs in some patients.

What it looks like: Small red bumps that may be pus-filled. Lasts more than two days and doesn't respond to diaper cream. More common in children who have recently taken antibiotics.
Yeast diaper rash is not contagious.

What it looks like: Small red bumps at first, which quickly become clear, fluid-filled blisters on a pink base; these eventually become dry brown crusts or scabs. New waves of itchy blisters often emerge as the illness progresses. Children usually get between 250 and 500 blisters, although it's possible to have just a few, especially if the child has had the chicken pox vaccine. Child may have a slight fever. Uncommon before the first birthday.
Chicken pox is very contagious.
