A new fertility technique, developed by biotech company Gameto, has led to the birth of the first baby conceived using its innovative approach called Fertilo. Unlike conventional IVF, which often involves multiple hormone injections and weeks-long cycles, Fertilo uses laboratory-grown ovarian support cells (OSCs) to help immature eggs mature outside the body. This method reportedly cuts hormone injections by around 80% and reduces treatment time to just a few days.
The first baby was born in Lima, Peru, and the mother described the process as less invasive and emotionally easier. The Fertilo technique has also gained regulatory clearance in Australia, Japan, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico, and Peru, with Gameto now working toward making it available in the United States. Through partnerships like the one with IVFAustralia, Fertilo could soon offer a more patient-friendly option for those seeking to start or grow their families.
