Hey girls!
If you’re a mom: this is for you, and for all of us.
I sometimes get told that I’m not a good mom, there’s a bonus to it in the form of a comparison with some other mom.
It hurts. LIKE A BITCH.
This time, I was just sitting and talking to myself in my head. I stumbled upon a thought: who really is a good mom after all? Is there any set of checklists that fits the criteria by and large. To my shock, I couldn’t really conclude which one would people around us validate the most.
Then it lead me to another thought. All my life, I have seen my father talk about the value of a mother. A mother in general. And how all mothers should be loved to bits. Then I thought, if he can celebrate motherhood so much, why is it so rare out there? You now why? Why am I emphasising on him?
Because he never saw his mom. He was around her for a while but has no memory of her. He was a few months old when she passed away. He has NO picture of her. He then met her in someone else’s story every time people told him how she was and how she loved him in those few months. From then onwards, he was tossed door to door for his upbringing but what remained constant was this very raw bond.
Then I go back to telling myself, if someone like him, I’m sure there are many, can celebrate and value mothers so much. Why don’t we value ourselves?
Next time if someone tells you (and I), that we are some b-grade moms, just override that statement with another one: Motherhood is raw in all of its forms and as great as each one of them!
❤️
