A workshop titled "Healing with Art: Selected Art Therapy Techniques" was held at the Department of Clinical Psychology, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, on August 16, 2024. Over 50 participants, including students, teachers, and clinicians from various institutions such as Foundation University, International Islamic University, NUML University, University of Wah, Bahria University, MAO Hospital Lahore, Punjab Public Services, and the Institute of Migration, United Nations (IOM, UN), attended the event. Dr. Tamkeen Saleem, HOD/Associate Professor of Clinical Psychology at STMU, facilitated the workshop. It featured art activities, evidence of the significance of art therapy for mental health enhancement, and reflections from the participants.
Participants reported to found the experience enriching and inspiring.
This workshop aimed to advance ethical and certified art therapy practice in Pakistan, addressing concerns about malpractice through proper training. Dr. Tamkeen emphasizes that the journey of creativity and self-discovery extends beyond the workshop and is excited to announce plans for a professional diploma in art therapy at Department of Clinical Psychology (DCP), Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) in the near future.
