Herniorrhaphy in Calf (Surgical Repair of Hernia)
Hernia in calves—especially umbilical hernia—is very common and requires surgical correction when large, non-reducible, or complicated.

Indications
Hernial ring > 3–5 cm
Non-reducible hernia
Pain, swelling, or infection (hernitis)
Risk of intestinal strangulation
Cosmetic/economic reasons

Postoperative Care
Antibiotics: 5–7 days
NSAIDs: For pain and inflammation
Wound care: Daily antiseptic dressing
Restrict movement for 1–2 weeks
Remove skin sutures after 10–14 days

اکثر فارمرز کے ذہن میں یہ سوال ہوتا ہے کہ اگر کسی بکری کا ایک دفعہ آپریشن (C-section) ہو جائے تو کیا وہ آئندہ خود سے نارمل بچہ دے سکتی ہے یا نہیں؟ ایک عملی مثال سے یہ بات واضح ہوتی ہے کہ اگر مناسب دیکھ بھال کی جائے تو بکری مکمل صحت یاب ہو کر اگلے سال نارمل ڈیلیوری بھی کر سکتی ہے۔

ایک بکری کا فروری 2025 میں سیزیرین آپریشن کیا گیا۔ اس کے بعد مناسب علاج، خوراک اور مینجمنٹ فراہم کی گئی۔ اگلے سال یعنی فروری 2026 میں اسی بکری نے بغیر کسی پیچیدگی کے نارمل طریقے سے بچے کو جنم دیا۔ یہ اس بات کا ثبوت ہے کہ درست مینجمنٹ کے ساتھ تولیدی صلاحیت برقرار رہ سکتی ہے۔

رحم (Uterus) کی بحالی (Uterine Healing)

آپریشن کے بعد رحم عموماً 3–4 ہفتوں میں ابتدائی طور پر ٹھیک ہو جاتا ہے، جبکہ مکمل functional recovery میں زیادہ وقت لگ سکتا ہے۔ اگر انفیکشن نہ ہو تو آئندہ حمل ممکن ہوتا ہے۔

انفیکشن کنٹرول
آپریشن کے بعد اگر رحم یا پیٹ میں انفیکشن (metritis/peritonitis) نہ ہو تو fertility متاثر نہیں ہوتی۔

مناسب وقفہ (Breeding Interval)
کم از کم 2–3 ماہ بعد دوبارہ بریڈنگ کی جائے تاکہ uterus مکمل طور پر recover ہو جاۓ ۔

1. Initial assessment

Determine:

Type: incised, lacerated, puncture, avulsion

Depth and involvement (tendon, joint, bone)

Time since injury

Evaluate for synovial involvement (critical in limb wounds)

Hemorrhage control

Direct pressure

Bandaging

Ligation if necessary

Medical therapy

Systemic antibiotics:

Indicated for contaminated, deep, or synovial wounds

NSAIDs:

Flunixin meglumine / phenylbutazone

Tetanus prophylaxis:

Toxoid or antitoxin if status unknown
