Neck pain is pain in or around the spine beneath your head, known as the cervical spine. Neck pain is a common symptom of many different injuries and medical conditions.

You might have axial neck pain (felt mostly in the neck) or radicular neck pain (pain shoots into other areas such as the shoulders or arms). It can be acute (lasting from days to up to 6 weeks) or chronic (lasts longer than 3 months to years).

Neck pain can interfere with daily activities and reduce your quality of life if left untreated.

A sprained ankle is an injury that occurs when you roll, twist or turn your ankle in an awkward way. This can stretch or tear the tough bands of tissue (ligaments) that help hold your ankle bones together.

Ligaments help stabilize joints, preventing excessive movement. A sprained ankle occurs when the ligaments are forced beyond their normal range of motion. Most sprained ankles involve injuries to the ligaments on the outer side of the ankle.

Treatment for a sprained ankle depends on the severity of the injury. Although self-care measures and over-the-counter pain medications may be all you need, a medical evaluation might be necessary to reveal how badly you've sprained your ankle and to determine the appropriate treatment.

The hip joint is also known as a ball and a socket joint. It is where the top of the thigh meets the pelvis. There are certain health conditions such as arthritis, limit the range of motion of the hip joint. Also, strenuous exercise, wearing high heels, and certain leg and back injuries can have a similar effect on this joint. All this affect the motility. However, certain exercises that can help loosen the soft tissue and improve the flexibility and mobility in the hip area are of great help.

The following moves will mobilize the hip flexors, the hip extensors and the hip rotators, all of which contribute to pain-free function and improved athleticism.

Try these exercises postworkout or pre-bedtime for better movement in and out of the gym.

đź”’ Hip-Flexor Stretch

1. Stand inside a doorway and turn to face the door frame on your right.
2. Step back with your left foot and place your knee and lower leg on the floor to the left of the wall behind you (place a pad under your left knee if necessary).
3. Slide your left leg backward along the wall until you feel a stretch in the front on your left hip.
4. Raise your chest and torso and extend your arms overhead.
5. Grab the doorjamb behind you and slide your arms as far overhead as possible.
6. Press your lower back toward the doorjamb and hold it there for the duration of the stretch.
7. Breathe deeply, hold for one to two minutes, and repeat on the other side.

đź”’ Flex-and-Rotate Hip Stretch

1. Stand facing a thigh-high table, desk, high bench, or the armrest of a couch.
2. Bend your right knee and raise your leg to rest your shin on the table, as if you’re doing a modified pigeon-pose stretch.
3. Bend your torso directly forward over your leg.
4. Press your elevated leg into the table for a five-count, then release for a 10-count, moving more deeply into the stretch. Contract and release five times.
5. Repeat the stretch with your torso rotated gently to the left, and again rotated to the right. Keep your back neutral and avoid rounding forward.
6. Slowly come out of the stretch.
7. Repeat the entire sequence with your left leg on the table.

It is not necessary that everyone can pull up the exercise with ease. It will take time for some, while a few might experience pain and stiffness in the muscles in the beginning. In any case, if the pain persists for long do not delay getting an advice from the health professional. For those with known joint and muscle problems or previous injuries and pain, it is better to seek medical advice before beginning with any exercises

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It involves inflammation of a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes (plantar fascia).

Plantar fasciitis commonly causes stabbing pain that usually occurs with your first steps in the morning. As you get up and move, the pain normally decreases, but it might return after long periods of standing or when you stand up after sitting.

If you are feeling pain in the heel, get yourself checked now!

The term Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

A Laser light is monochromatic and coherent.
Low Laser Therapy is used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions one of them is shoulder pain.

Laser emits no heat or sound in-fact it affects the function of connective tissue cells and accelerates the tissue repair and act as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Laser with different wavelengths are used to treat different types of shoulder syndromes.

Do not confuse it with high intensity laser that is used in laser surgery for tissue removal.

Osteoporosis and Arthritis are both chronic, long-term conditions that affect your bones. Arthritis causes swelling, inflammation, and pain in your joints. Osteoporosis develops as a result of decreased bone mass and density, and can lead to fractures.

Arthritis and osteoporosis both affect your bones, but they do not develop or present in the same way. Arthritis symptoms are often more noticeable. Many people don’t realize they have osteoporosis until they break a bone.

Why posture’s so important?

Having good posture is about more than looking good. It helps you to develop strength, flexibility, and balance in your body. These can all lead to less muscle pain and more energy throughout the day. Proper posture also reduces stress on your muscles and ligaments, which can reduce your risk of injury.

Improving your posture also helps you become more aware of your muscles, making it easier to correct your own posture. As you work on your posture and become more aware of your body, you might even notice some imbalances or areas of tightness you weren’t previously aware of.

Slouching on a working chair doesn't always cause discomfort, but over time this position can place strain on already sensitised muscles and soft tissues.

If your bottom tends to stick out or you have a pronounced curve in your lower back, you may have hyperlordosis. This is an exaggerated inward curve of the lower back that creates a "Donald Duck" posture.

A flat back means your pelvis is tucked in and your lower back is straight instead of naturally curved, causing you to stoop forward. People with a flat back often find it difficult standing for long periods.

Leaning more on 1 leg while standing can feel comfortable, especially if you have been standing for a while. But instead of using your buttocks and core muscles to keep you upright, you place excessive pressure on 1 side of your lower back and hip.

Calcific tendonitis is caused by calcium buildup in your tendons. These calcium deposits can accumulate in one area or may occur in more than one location. If the deposits grow bigger or become irritated, they can cause severe pain. Calcific tendonitis most often affects the shoulder — or rotator cuff — though it can occur anywhere in the body.

Frozen shoulder, also known as adhesive capsulitis, is a condition characterized by stiffness and pain in your shoulder joint. Signs and symptoms typically begin gradually, worsen over time and then resolve, usually within one to three years.

Your risk of developing frozen shoulder increases if you're recovering from a medical condition or procedure that prevents you from moving your arm — such as a stroke or a mastectomy.

Speech therapy is the assessment and treatment of communication problems and speech disorders. It is performed by speech-language pathologists (SLPs), which are often referred to as speech therapists.
Speech therapy techniques are used to improve communication. These include articulation therapy, language intervention activities, and others depending on the type of speech or language disorder.
Speech therapy may be needed for speech disorders that develop in childhood or speech impairments in adults caused by an injury or illness, such as stroke or brain injury.

04/12/2023

Degenerative disc disease is a condition characterized by damage to the intervertebral discs that can result in pain and stiffness.

There are three different types of degenerative disc disease, which influence the degenerative disc symptoms a patient may experience. Pain will typically spread to the neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, and/or feet.

The causes of degenerative disc disease is from a natural process of aging as the intervertebral discs lose flexibility, elasticity, and their shock absorbing abilities. Most often, disc degeneration begins around age 30 but may be asymptomatic for several years before a person begins to feel pain and treatment for degenerative disc disease is required.

01/12/2023

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body.

Sciatica most commonly occurs when a herniated disk, bone spur on the spine or narrowing of the spine (spinal stenosis) compresses part of the nerve. This causes inflammation, pain and often some numbness in the affected leg.

Goals of Physical Therapy and Exercise in Treating Sciatica

Physical therapy and exercise help strengthen and mobilize tissues in the lower back, pelvis, abdomen, buttocks, and thighs.

The goals of physical therapy and exercise in treating the signs and symptoms of sciatica are to:

-Restore pain-free functional movement patterns
-Relieve lower back, buttock, thigh, and leg pain
-Reduce muscle spasm
-Restore function of the lumbar spine and the sacroiliac joint
-Improve mobility of the lower body
-Foster a better healing environment in the lower back
-Promote neurologic adaptations to reduce the perception of pain
-Prevent future pain flareups and reduce fear associated with movement.
-Mechanical Traction

29/11/2023

Laser therapy is an alternative treatment for some types of pain, such as that often associated with the knee.

Cold laser therapy beams light energy at your skin to reduce pain and inflammation deep within an area of your body, like your knee. It’s used to treat knee pain from osteoarthritis (OA), as well as low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), fibromyalgia, tendinitis, nerve pain, and sports injuries.

The device uses low levels of energy, or photons. Unlike higher-frequency lasers used for surgery, they don’t heat or cut your skin. Photons pe*****te deep into a painful joint. The light triggers chemical changes that help damaged cells and tissues heal and regrow.

During treatment, your doctor aims the cold laser device directly at the skin on your knee. It will either touch your skin or be very close to it.

The device sends a quick light pulse into your knee that lasts from 30 to 60 seconds. You’ll need more than one treatment to get results.

If you are facing any issue, get yourself checked now!

28/11/2023

Back pain is the fifth most common reason for physician visits, affects nearly 60-80% of people throughout their lifetime.
Some studies have shown that up to 23% of the world’s adults suffer from chronic low back pain. This population has also shown a one-year recurrence rate of 24% to 80%.
There are different definitions of low back pain depending on the source. According to the European Guidelines for prevention of low back pain, low back pain is defined as “pain and discomfort, localized below the costal margin and above the inferior gluteal folds, with or without leg pain.
Low back pain is usually categorized in 3 subtypes: acute, sub-acute and chronic low back pain. This subdivision is based on the duration of the back pain.
The first aim of the physiotherapy examination for a patient presenting with back pain is to classify the patient according to the diagnostic triage recommended in international back pain guidelines.
The importance of distinguishing low back-related leg pain into these four groups is to facilitate diagnosis and provide a more effective, appropriate treatment:
-Central sensitization with mainly positive symptoms such as hyperalgesia
-Denervation with significant axonal damage showing predominantly negative sensory symptoms and possibly motor loss
-Peripheral nerve sensitization with enhanced nerve trunk mechanosensitization
-Somatic referred pain from musculoskeletal structures, such as the intervertebral disc or facet joints.
The exercise program includes a warm-up session of five exercises (awareness of the back, pelvic tilt, lumbar rotation, arm movements, whole-body movement in standing), well-known exercises targeting the muscles of the back extensors, abdominals, lateral buttocks, trunk rotators, posterior buttocks, leg muscles, oblique abdominals (e.g. the plank, diagonal arm and leg lift), as well as exercises for flexibility For each of the eight types of exercise.
