Here are some winter precautions students can take:
Hydrate:
Children lose water through their skin and breath in dry air, so it's important to make sure they drink enough fluids.
Eat healthy:
Healthy food can help boost a child's immunity in the winter.
Recognize signs of frostbite and hypothermia: These conditions can be life-threatening if left untreated.
Dress in layers:
Wear a wind-resistant coat, hat, gloves, scarf, and waterproof shoes.
Remove an outer layer before strenuous activity to avoid overheating.
Use sunscreen:
Sun can reflect off snow, so apply sunscreen to exposed areas.
Wash hands:
Wash hands with soap and water after coughing, sneezing, sharing toys, and eating.
Avoid clothing hazards:
Scarves and hood strings can strangle smaller children.
Check in on warmth:
Tell children to come inside if they get wet or cold, and keep watching them.
