What is Retinal Detachment?
Retinal detachment describes an emergency situation in which a thin layer of tissue (the retina) at the back of the eye pulls away from its normal position
Retinal detachment itself is painless. But warning signs almost always appear before it occurs:
1. The sudden appearance of many floaters — tiny specks that seem to drift through your field of vision
2. Flashes of light in one or both eyes (photopsia)
3. Blurred vision
4. Gradually reduced side vision
5. A curtain-like shadow over your visual field
When to see a doctor?
Seek immediate medical attention if you are experiencing the signs or symptoms of retinal detachment. Retinal detachment is a medical emergency in which you can permanently lose your vision.

What are Floaters?
These are tiny spots or specks that float across your field of vision. Most people notice them in well-lit rooms or outdoors on a bright day.
Floaters are usually normal, but they sometimes can be a sign of a more serious eye problem, like retinal detachment. That’s when the retina at the back of your eye separates from the layer underneath. When this happens, you might also see light flashes along with the floaters or a dark shadow come across the edge of your sight.
If you notice a sudden change in the type or number of spots or flashes you see or a new dark “curtain" in your peripheral vision, go to your eye doctor as soon as possible

Myth: Eating carrots will improve your vision.
Fact: Vitamin A is essential for the body to maintain healthy eyesight and carrots have high amounts of this nutrient. While eating foods rich in vitamin A can help you maintain good eyesight, it won't improve your vision or keep you from needing glasses or contacts. Remember to eat vitamin A-rich foods together with fat to better absorb the benefits

Myth: Eye exams are not necessary unless you are having an eye problem.
Fact: This couldn’t be more false. There are many silent enemies of the eyes – glaucoma, muscular degeneration, diabetes and hypertension to name but a few – that only a routine eye examination can pick up. We recommend an eye exam every 2 years for people under 65 and yearly when over 65

If you have color blindness, it means you see colors differently than most people. Most of the time, color blindness makes it hard to tell the difference between certain colors.
Types of colorblindness:
The most common type of color blindness makes it hard to tell the difference between red and green. Another type makes it hard to tell the difference between blue and yellow. People who are completely color blind don’t see color at all. Symptoms:
The difference between colors
How bright colors are
Different shades of colors
How can I find out if I have color blindness?
Your eye doctor can usually use a simple test to tell you if you’re color blind.
During the test, your eye doctor will show you a circle made of many different colored dots. The circle has a shape inside it that’s made out of dots — like a number, a letter, or a squiggly line. This shape is easy to see if you don’t have color blindness, but people who are color blind have a hard time seeing it

Here are a few eye care tips for the summer!
1. Wear sunglasses when stepping out - As sunscreens are essential for skin, so are the shades for eyes. When you are stepping out in the peak summers, go for oversized shades as it will provide extra protection to your eyes. Shades protect the eyes from cornea burn from the damaging UV rays.
2. Remain hydrated - Yes, intake of a good volume of fluids is imperative for your better eye health. Since in summers our eyes’ tear film often gets evaporated, therefore drinking more water can help your body produce a healthy volume of tears. But one should refrain from having alcohol and caffeine because it leads to dehydration.
3. Avoid midday sun - Restrict your movement in the sun during the later hours of the morning or afternoon, if it’s not that essential. This is the time the sun shines bright and UV rays are at peak. Protecting your eyes from dangerous UV rays is essential for optimal eye health and maintaining your vision.

1. Never wet them by putting them in your mouth. That can make an infection more likely.
2. Make sure your lenses fit properly, so they don’t scratch your eyes.
3. Use eye drops that say they're safe for contact lenses.
4. Never use homemade saline solutions.
5. If you do everything right and still have problems with your contacts, see your eye doctor.

You might have allergies, dry eyes, or just be better off with glasses. Once you know what the problem is, you can decide what’s best for you
