How to Teach
1. Show + Help
Guide your child through each step calmly.
Example:
“Turn on water.”
“Good job!”
“Now wet hands.”
You can:
● Point
● Model the action
● Gently guide hands if needed
2. Praise Every Success
Immediately praise small wins.
Examples:
● “Nice washing!”
● “Great job getting soap!”
● “You did it!”
You can also give:
● High fives
● Stickers
● Small rewards
3. Teach One Step at a Time
If all steps are too hard, focus on one step first.
Example:
Today’s goal: ✅ Only turning on the water
Then slowly add more steps later.
4. Practice Daily
Practice during real routines:
● Before eating
● After toilet
● After playing outside
Short daily practice works best.
Helpful Tips
● Use a visual step chart near the sink
● Keep soap easy to reach
● Use warm water if sensory-sensitive
● Stay calm and position.
