President College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal, on the invitation of Commandant AFPGMI, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Rafique, delivered a common lecture at Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute Rawalpindi for post graduate doctors, senior specialists, and administrative medical leadership. He was accompanied by the Senior Vice President and Regional Director Islamabad, Prof. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi.
While introducing the speakers, they acknowledged the unparalleled contributions of Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal in the field of medical education, long-standing commitment to academic excellence, and professional standards in Pakistan.
This common lecture was also streamed online via Zoom to 10 peripheral tertiary care hospitals. The Guest Speaker President CPSP paid tribute to founder of the College Lt-Gen. Wajid Ali Burki, Past Presidents and Councils especially Prof. Muhammad Sultan Farooqi and Prof Zafar Ullah Chaudhary for their unprecedented contributions for this great institution.
Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal discussed the global as well as regional challenges of post graduate medical education, including phases of induction and training, accreditation, curriculum, model of training, supervision, monitoring, and evaluation. He threw light upon the strategies adopted by CPSP while addressing these challenges and the implementation of Competency-Based Medical Education at par with international standards. He discussed the induction process, criteria of accreditation, re-accreditation and de-accreditation, and the role of the Department of National Residency Program to ensure quality and standards, Directorate of Medical Education to supervise training courses, updating of curriculum, new fellowship programs, and faculty development programs. He also discussed the role of the Advanced Skills Department for training in advanced skills courses, including BLS, ACLS, ATLS, PALS, BBV, and ALSO. While discussing quality assurance, he highlighted the college policies of trainer and trainee ratio and methods of critical appraisal of examinations.
While discussing the role of faculties, he mentioned how the College is achieving short-term and long-term goals set by the faculties, which include the implementation of Workplace-Based Assessment, Monitoring of Supervisors, Strengthening of MCQs Bank, Master Trainer Workshops for supervisors and examiners, and revamping of curriculum. He presented the statistical strengths of CPSP and how the College is ensuring quality and standards with the increasing number of trainees, supervisors, and fellowship programs.
The College is currently conducting the highest number of fellowship programs, i.e., 90, which include 46 first fellowship and 44 second fellowship programs.
He also highlighted the role of Regional Centers of CPSP across the country and international centers and their role in contributing excellence in higher medical education. The College is practically the symbol of national unity in the country. He mentioned that the evaluation process is structured and transparent, and the fellowship examinations have involvement of the foreign examiners, and the College has always valued their input.

He, while discussing international collaborations, quoted examples of the relationship of the College with international accrediting and regulating bodies, including the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), ACGME, ACCME, and IAMRA.

In continuity with the international collaborations, he mentioned collaboration with Ireland, UK, Middle East, and countries of the SAARC region. President CPSP shared the vision of CPSP to ensure standards, quality, and transparency in training, monitoring, and evaluation.
He concluded his talk with the following sentence:
"CPSP's GREATEST STRENGTH IS NOT THE EXAMPLE OF POWER BUT THE POWER OF OUR OWN EXAMPLE".
At the end of this invited talk, there was good interaction with the participants sitting in the Auditorium and on Zoom too. The Session concluded with a vote of thanks, with the expectation that the insights and life lessons shared by the Guest Speaker would have a lasting impact on the professional development of the medical fraternity.
On this occasion, Commandant AFPGMI Maj. Gen. Muhammad Rafique presented a Souvenirs to Guest Speaker President CPSP Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal and Senior Vice President Prof. Muhammad Shoaib Shafi.
