YDA Karachi Press Conference on Urology Ward Harassment Case

Karachi The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Karachi today held a press conference on the inrtruction of chairman yda sindh Dr mehboob noonari in response to the controversial notification seeking to transfer back a doctor previously found guilty in multiple harassment inquiries from Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

YDA Karachi declared the move as a clear contempt of the honorable court, since the matter remains sub judice. The association recalled that three independent inquiry reports conducted by JPMC, JSMU, and the Sindh Health Department had already established the accused’s guilt in harassment cases.

After YDA Karachi’s strong stance, the JSMU syndicate issued a letter affirming that the case is sub judice. This was hailed by the association as a victory for the doctors’ community and for women, reaffirming that harassment cannot and will not be tolerated in medical institutions.

YDA Karachi strongly condemned those protecting the accused and attempting to reinstate him, stressing that such actions endanger the victims who continue to work in the same department and undermine both institutional integrity and women’s dignity in the workplace

The association reaffirmed its resolve to stand with the victims, uphold justice, and protect the rights of all doctors, especially women, working in healthcare.

YDA Karachi Strongly Condemns Attempt to Transfer back Harasser in JPMC

Karachi, August 22, 2025
The Young Doctors Association (YDA) Karachi Divisional strongly condemns the shocking development regarding Dr. Shehzad, who was found guilty of harassment in 3 inquiry committees conducted by JPMC, JSMU, and the Health Secretariat. Despite the fact that judicial proceedings are currently underway in court, a letter has been forwarded requesting his transfer back to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).

This reckless move raises serious questions on the credibility and intentions of the JPMC administration. How can an individual proven guilty of harassment by an official inquiry committee be considered for transfer back instead of facing strict disciplinary action? Such actions are a direct insult to the dignity of the victim and to the principles of justice.

YDA Karachi makes the following demands:
1. Immediate dismissal of Dr. Shehzad from service.
2. Highest penalty under law for harassment, as per the Workplace Harassment Act.
3. Judicial accountability to ensure he is placed behind bars and not protected by administrative loopholes.
4. A transparent inquiry into how and why such a letter of transfer back was issued.

Harassment has no place in medicine. Those proven guilty must face the highest punishment, not protection. YDA Karachi will continue to fight until justice is delivered,” stated Dr. Shaharyar Raza, President YDA Karachi, and Dr. Hamza Sohail, General Secretary YDA Karachi.

YDA Karachi Stands with Abbasi Shaheed Hospital Doctors

On the instructions of Chairman Sindh Dr. Mehboob Noonari, the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Karachi, together with YDA Abbasi Shaheed Hospital led by Dr. Ayesha, staged a protest against years of negligence and exploitation of doctors at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Doctors are facing salary delays of up to 2 months, PG trainees with 4 months backlog, and house officers without pay for 5 months. The approved salary increment has been unlawfully blocked under the direction of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, while no proper security has been provided in the hospital.

All the tertiary care hospitals getting salary of of 104k why this is injustice with the doctors of Abbasi shaheed hospital paying 75k even the budget has been approved and increment blocked corrupt mafia this is injustice with our doctors who work day and night to serve the patients selflessly

YDA Karachi demands:

1. Immediate release of all pending salaries.
2. Implementation of the approved increment.
3. Provision of permanent hospital security.
4. Inquiry into corruption and obstruction of salaries.

"Delaying salaries and blocking increments is a direct attack on the dignity of doctors. YDA Karachi will continue its strike and boycott until all demands are met,"

YDA Karachi Urges PMDC to Reduce MDCAT Fee and Ensure Fair Syllabus

The President of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Karachi has called on the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) to immediately reduce the MDCAT fee from Rs. 9,000 to Rs. 5,000 or less, terming the current fee an unjust burden on students and their families.

The YDA Karachi President also highlighted another long-standing concern regarding the MDCAT syllabus. PMDC has announced the creation of a centralized question bank based on a (so-called ) uniform syllabus. However, in practice, students are still advised to prepare according to their respective provincial textbook boards.

Every year, MDCAT includes questions lifted from other provinces’ textbooks, leaving thousands of students at a massive disadvantage. This is academic injustice.
We demand: PMDC must set questions ONLY from each province’s own textbook board syllabus so every student competes on a level playing field.

YDA Karachi calls upon PMDC to:
1. Reduce the MDCAT registration fee to a fair amount ✔️
2. Ensure a province-specific syllabus policy, where each student is tested based only on their own provincial textbook board ✔️

Welcoming Dr. Saddam Saleh as Asistant Director of Procurement (ADM) in Jinnah postgraduate medical centre -A Step Towards Transparent Progress

We are pleased to announce the formal appointment of Dr. Saddam Saleh as the A.Director of Procurement at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). This decision, taken by the Honourable Secretary Health and the Director of JPMC, reflects a bold and much-needed shift toward transparency, accountability, and youth empowerment within our healthcare institutions.

Dr. Saddam Saleh, known for his integrity, dedication, and progressive approach, brings a renewed sense of responsibility and optimism to this vital role. At a time when the procurement department has been under intense scrutiny due to the mismanagement and unethical practices of previous leaderships, this appointment marks a clean break from the past.

We strongly believe that the shortcomings and corrupt practices of prior administrations must not be imposed or associated with this new, deserving leadership. Dr. Saleh represents a new generation of leadership committed to institutional reform, fiscal responsibility, and service to public health.

Attempts to discourage or undermine this promising and capable individual are both unproductive and unwelcome. We urge all stakeholders to support this new chapter, work together in good faith, and prioritize the needs of the hospital and its patients.

Let this charge be a reminder: real progress begins when capable, honest individuals are empowered to lead.

On the instructions of Dr. Mehboob Noonari, Chairman of YDA Sindh,
Dr. Shehryar Raza President of YDA Karachi Division, along with his legal team, has traveled from Karachi to join the protest at Babarlo Bypass, Khairpur, against the illegal construction of canals on the Indus River. This collective effort is being undertaken in collaboration with Imran Bhutto Law Associates and members of the advocate community.

This protest transcends ethnic boundaries — it is not about Sindhi, Urdu-speaking, Punjabi, or Pathan identities. It concerns every soul living on the soil of Sindh. It is a battle for the survival of Sindh, its lands, its rivers, and its people.

When rivers are stolen, futures are destroyed.

Subject: Immediate Resumption of OPDs and Elective OTs at JPMC

As the President of YDA Karachi Division, I, hereby instruct the immediate reopening of all OPDs and elective OTs at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC).
This step is taken following the honorable Secretary Health’s directives and the fulfillment of YDA’s core demands.

It is unfortunate that despite clear instructions, a group with vested interests—backed by the Director JPMC—is attempting to delay the implementation process. Their efforts to protect the current Security Incharge, who has consistently failed in maintaining hospital security and misled the administration, are unacceptable and detrimental to both Doctors and patient welfare.

YDA Karachi Division, in collaboration with YDA JPMC, is united in ensuring the smooth restoration of medical services. I instruct all members of YDA Karachi and YDA JPMC to actively assist in resuming full-scale OPDs and OTs so that no patient suffers further—especially those who have traveled from other cities seeking care.

We urge the Honourable Secretary Health to ensure immediate enforcement of the issued orders and respectfully request the Honourable Health Minister to take notice of these delaying tactics. Patient welfare must remain our top priority.
