WHAT IS SCIATICA AND HOW IS IT TREATED?
Sciatica is pain, tingling, or numbness in the leg caused by compression of the nerve roots of spine. Usually patients complain of pain in the back, which travels into the hip and back side of thigh. Sometimes this can be accompanied by weakness of leg and urine also.
The diagnosis is made by MRI.
The treatment can be done in one of the following ways:
1) Medicines with bed rest
2) Spinal injections,
3) Surgery
We try to treat patients without operation at first and only offer surgery as a last option. We believe in first trying non operative treatments which is the honest and ethical method, practiced in countries like UK, where the author trained for 9 years. Unnecessary spine surgery should be avoided, and patients should be provided all other options, before proceeding to surgery.
Our method of non-operative treatment with trans-foraminal epidural injections under X-ray guidance, has a high success rate of over 80 percent, Alhamdulillah. The author has learnt this technique from UK and wishes to provide caring and honest treatment to all patients.
If you have this problem, we would be happy to help you.
