Karachi Bridge Association (KBA) was incorporated as Karachi Bridge Associates (Guarantee) Ltd., in December 2013 with Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP). Earlier in 1974 it was formed as Pakistan Contract Bridge League and in 1993, changed its name to Karachi Bridge Association on getting affiliated with Pakistan Bridge Federation. Dr. Muhammad Iliyas and Syed Ameer Hasan were the founder president and secretary. The game was played at Bangalore Town Hall in Bangalore Housing Society in Karachi. Dr. Muhammad Iliyas, ably assisted by Aslam Sheikh and Mehdi Mustafa used to run duplicate bridge programs twice a week. Bridge stars like Zia Mahmood, Masud Salim, Jane Alam, Nishat Abedi, Nisar Ahmed, Munir Ataullah, Jane Alam Fazli along with the others used to play there. In 1977, space was acquired underneath one of the cricketing stands of National Stadium. In 1995, Mr. Aslam Sheikh, a one-man army managing the affairs of KBA was assassinated. As a tribute to him the playing area was named as Aslam Bridge Hall. KBA created its own web site in 1999 and from 2002, weekly pairs results were being regularly posted at Ecats Bridge website. KBA now uses state of the art Bridgemates wireless devices for live scoring since 2008 and all the results are regularly uploaded to Bridgewebs. In 2013, KBA acquired a dealing machine which has been churning out computer dealt hands ever since for all our events. Ahsan Zaheer Rizvi, a leading lawyer of Pakistan led the association from 2014-2016. He gave strength and stability to the organization. Recently, a new cabinet has been inducted for 2017-2019, led by Dr. Minhaj Qidwai, who is a Healthcare Management Consultant. The goal of KBA is to promote bridge in Karachi in particular and Pakistan in general and make Pakistan shine on the global bridge map. The management would like to achieve this by:
1. Serving KBA members effectively and efficiently with focus on increasing the membership;
2. Working closely with like-minded organizations; and
3. Promotion of bridge among youth. KBA would like to welcome players for pairs event every Friday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm and team event every Sunday from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Aslam Hall, National Stadium, Karachi. For the mid-week games on Tuesdays, KBA arranged games at other clubs like Karachi Club, Karachi Gymkhana Club, Defense Club and Golf Club or at Aslam Bridge Hall if the event cannot be held at any other club. Besides these regular events, every year, KBA organizes major Pairs & Teams events, besides their own, at Karachi Club and Karachi Gymkhana or elsewhere.
