Antibiotic Resistance in Pakistan

🚫High Priority Post:

✅Antibiotic resistance is developed as a result of overuse without indications.

✅Antibiotics work only for specific infections

✅Research has shown majority of common illnesses are viral in nanture and patients recover naturally with supportive measures

🛑 if someone keeps taking antibiotics for minor illnesses, the medications stop working for actual infection that would have been responsive to antibiotics otherwise 🛑

Please do not self medicate with antibiotics and consult your family physician for further advice

We at Abdul Rahim Medical Center promote No antibiotic until absolutely necessary to fight against antibiotics resistance.

What is depression?

While we all feel sad, moody or low from time to time, some people experience these feelings intensely, for long periods of time (weeks, months or even years) and sometimes without any apparent reason. Depression is more than just a low mood; it is a serious condition that has an impact on both physical and mental health.

Depression is a constant feeling of sadness and loss of interest, which stops a person from doing routine activities. Different types of depression exist, with symptoms ranging from relatively minor to severe.

Common signs and symptoms to recognize depression in yourself or your loved ones are explained in the picture below!!!

Depression is often not recognized and can go on for long time if left untreated which can have many negative effects on a person's life, including serious relationships and family problems, difficulty finding and holding down a job, addiction problems and most importantly, suicidal ideas.

There is a range of effective treatments and health professionals who can help people to recovery. There are also many things that people with depression can do for themselves to help them recover and stay well. The important thing is to find the right treatment and the right health professional for a person's needs.

We at Abdul Rahim Medical Centre provide counselling services for depression. If you feel depressed, see your doctor; don't delay. If you see your loved one suffering from depression, ask for help for them. Seeking support early can help stop symptoms becoming worse.

Discrete appointments via Telemedicine can also be booked with Dr. Khadija Haris from Canada who has broad experience in counselling skills. Please contact us if you need help

What is the difference between a general practitioner and a Family Physician???

The truth is, people go to general practitioners when they get sick. However, a family physician's Moto is to take care of your health from childhood to old age, educating you of different health challenges you may face during each phase of life and guide and help you in dealing with them.

Family Physicians are jacks of all trades and have some experience in every speciality may it be paediatrics, Psychiatry, Gyne, surgery or ENT etc.

We at Abdul Rahim Medical Center, promote health first and focus on disease prevention. Treatment of disease is a plus side of a long-term doctor patient relationship which is a perk of Family Medicine.

19/03/2021

" I worry about my career all the time and feel I cannot work effectively due to worry"

" I am worried about my child's health and I fear my child will not grow well as compared to other children his/her age and I cannot sleep at night worrying"

" I worry about my old age, there will be no one to take care of me, sometimes I feel like its all hopeless"

These are the common complaints in our population that we don't think are conditions worth mentioning. We are here for you to raise awareness.

Let's talk about Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is characterized by the following:

1. Excessive and persistent worrying that is hard to control
2. It causes significant distress or impairment in everyday life
3. It occurs on more days than not for at least six months.

Other features include psychological symptoms of anxiety, such as apprehensiveness and irritability, and physical (or somatic) symptoms of anxiety, such as increased fatigue and muscular tension.

Effective treatments for GAD include psychological interventions such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, applied relaxation, and medications that we practice at ARMC. Lets not stigmatize mental health and make a commitment to treat it.

Dr. Khadija Haris

Mental Health in Pakistan:
Psychological problems in Pakistan are widespread. According to one estimate, around 50 million people in Pakistan suffer from mental disorders. A range of psychiatric disorders have been reported, such as depression, addiction, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Mental illness is not well understood especially in our country, it frightens people and all too often it carries a stigma as the awareness about mental illness is poor. Such illness is generally attributed to supernatural causes—it is considered to be a curse, a spell, or a test from God. This dichotomy needs awareness/recognition of the actual reality.

Let's break the myths via a series of mental health conditions awareness posts and how doctors at Abdul Rahim Medical Center helps their patients' mental health. For consultation and counselling, please message us here on our page.
