Strabismus (Crossed Eyes)
Strabismus is the medical term for crossed eyes and is used to refer to any condition in which they eyes do not move together toward an object. The eyes of people who have the condition appear to not focus together on the same spot. One eye may appear to look up, down, in, or out compared to the other. Strabismus may be a dangerous condition because, over time, the brain may rely on input from just the stronger eye. The weaker eye may not develop correctly and blindness may result in that eye. Mild-to-moderate strabismus is treated by placing an eyepatch over the stronger eye. This trains the weaker eye to do more work and catch up to the function of the stronger eye. Severe cases of strabismus may be treated surgically
