پتے کی پتھری (Gallstones) اس وقت بنتی ہے جب پتے میں موجود کولیسٹرول یا بائل سالٹس سخت ہو کر پتھر کی شکل اختیار کر لیتے ہیں۔ اس کی عام علامات میں پیٹ کے اوپری دائیں حصے یا سینے کے درمیان میں شدید درد (جسے Biliary Colic کہتے ہیں)، متلی، الٹی، بدہضمی، کھانے کے بعد پیٹ پھولنا، اور چکنائی والی غذا کھانے کے بعد تکلیف شامل ہیں۔ بعض اوقات بخار اور یرقان (Jaundice) بھی ہو سکتا ہے جو اس بات کی علامت ہے کہ پتھری نے پتے کی نالی کو بند کر دیا ہے۔
