*Strengthening Community Mental Health Care:* *Rural Psychiatry Training Program Held in Sheikhupura* 🌿

The *Community Psychiatry Department* of the Punjab Institute of Mental Health conducted a *rural psychiatry training program in Sheikhupura for primary care doctors,* aimed at equipping them with essential skills to provide preliminary mental health care within their communities.
*Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid, Executive Director of PIMH,* delivered an insightful session on anxiety disorders and their psychiatric management and treatment planning. *Dr. Iqra Tariq,* Focal Person of the Community Psychiatry Department, shared valuable perspectives on mood disorders, while *Mr. Yousaf Raza,* Clinical Psychologist at the Community Psychiatry Department, discussed somatic symptom and related disorders, with a focus on differentiating them from underlying medical conditions to minimize the risk of misdiagnosis.

The training was attended and *actively participated in by Dr. Aijaz Sana, Dr. Akhtar, Dr. Naeem Qureshi, Dr. Faiza Aijaz, Dr. Shoaib, Dr. Rasheed, Dr. Sanan, Dr. Walia, Dr. Rabia Parfait, Dr. Saima, and Dr. Razaq.*

The session was effectively *moderated and well-coordinated by Dr. Sobia Asmat* , consultant psychiatrist whose efforts contributed greatly to the smooth ex*****on of the program. 📍 Lahore, May 11, 2026:

*The Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH),* Lahore, celebrated Mother’s Day through a heartfelt event organized by the *WELLNESS CLUB PIMH* under the *visionary leadership of Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid,* Executive Director PIMH. 💜

The event *aimed to honor the unconditional love, sacrifices, emotional strength, and resilience of mothers while promoting compassion, emotional wellbeing, and healing.*

The ceremony commenced with *Tilawat-e-Quran followed by the 🇵🇰 National Anthem.* The session was *gracefully moderated by Ms. Aqila Unbrin,* Principal Clinical Psychologist and Chairperson Wellness Club PIMH,and *Dr Maham Hameed* who highlighted the psychological importance of maternal love, emotional attachment, and the healing power of a mother’s care and prayers.

A *touching segment* of the event included *Mother’s Day messages, poetry, songs, and reflections by patients,* expressing emotions of love, hope, gratitude, and recovery. A

*Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid, Executive Director* PIMH, addressed the audience on *“Work-Life Balance in Working Mothers,”* emphasizing the importance of emotional wellbeing and supportive family systems.She emphasized that a mother’s care, support, and prayers play a vital role in promoting emotional wellbeing, resilience, and mental health within families and society.

The event was *attended by members of the administrative staff, teaching faculty, doctors, PGRs, Clinical Psychologists,Nursing Superintendent,pharmacists, nursing staff, and patients of PIMH.*

🌟 *From Visit to Vision: Civil Services Academy (CSA) at PIMH* 🌟

👥 *Officers from the Civil Services Academy (CSA)* visited the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) for an informative and engaging session aimed at fostering collaboration in mental health and wellbeing.
🎓 *Executive Director Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid,* along with the Administrative Team, Teaching faculty, Heads of Departments, doctors, and clinical psychologists, warmly received the delegation. During the briefing, the Executive Director *Prof Dr Aysha Rashid shared insights* into PIMH’s history, its functioning, and the wide range of services provided.
*Dr Ateeq ur Rehman (AMS Admin) , Prof Dr Nauman Mazher , Dr Farasat Ali , Dr Ghulam Hassan , Ms Aqila Unbrin , Principal Clinical Psychologist, Ms Nasreen Akhtar ( NS) Dr Ahmad, Dr Maham , Dr Saira , Dr Munazza Niazi* were present during briefing.
🏥 The visiting officers toured multiple departments, including *the Addiction Treatment Centre (ATC), Skill Development Center, Emergency Department, OPD Unit D, Learning Resource Centre (LRC), and the institute’s kitchen.* 👏 They appreciated the comprehensive care and dedicated efforts of the staff.
🤝 The visit paved the way for meaningful collaborations, particularly focusing on wellness initiatives. 🌱 Plans were discussed to establish liaison between the *CSA Emotional Wellbeing Society and the PIMH Wellness Club* for the benefit of both staff and patients.
The visit was facilitated by *Ms Aqila Unbrin, Dr Farhan Jabbar and Mr Yousaf Raza* .
🏆 At the conclusion of the visit, *CSA* presented a *commemorative shield to the Executive Director of PIMH* as a gesture of appreciation and goodwill.

*Strengthening the Fight Against Drug Addiction*

*Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Mehr Liaqat* (CNF Lahore Division) visited the Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH), Lahore, for an important meeting with *Executive Director Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid.*

The meeting was also attended by AMS Admin *Dr. Ateeq ur Rehman,* Principal Clinical Psychologist *Ms. Aqila Unbrin* , and *Dr. Adnan Yousaf,* Incharge of the Addiction Treatment Center.

A thoughtful and impactful discussion took place on addressing the rising rate of drug addiction and enhancing awareness and prevention strategies. The visit highlighted the importance of collaboration between institutions to tackle this critical issue.

During the visit, the CNF *Lieutenant Colonel presented a shield to the Executive Director as a gesture of appreciation.* He also toured the Addiction Treatment Center to observe ongoing efforts and facilities dedicated to recovery and rehabilitation.

📍 Lahore, April 30, 2026:

*The Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH),* Lahore, marked *World Book Day 2026* with the *inauguration of WELLNESS READING CORNERS FOR PATIENTS,* 💚 an *initiative* by the *Wellness Club PIMH* , aimed at promoting mental well-being among psychiatric patients through reading and positive engagement under the *Visionary patronage of Prof Dr Aysha Rashid* Executive Director PIMH

The session was skillfully moderated by *Ms. Aqila Unbrin* , Principal Clinical Psychologist and *Chairperson Wellness Club PIMH* , who highlighted the importance of this initiative, emphasizing how reading serves as a powerful tool for healing, emotional regulation, cognitive stimulation, and positive diversion.

The ceremony commenced with *Tilawat* followed by the 🇵🇰 *National Anthem* . A brief introduction outlined the *purpose of Wellness Reading Corners* as a therapeutic space fostering bibliotherapy, patient engagement, and recovery-oriented care.

A *heartfelt segment* of the program included patient's reflections, where patients from the *Rehabilitation Unit, Mr. Abdullah and Mr. Awais,* shared their experiences, expressing how reading provides comfort, hope, and a sense of belonging.

The *welcome address* was delivered by *Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid* , Executive Director, PIMH, who appreciated the efforts of the Wellness Club and emphasized the importance of holistic, recovery-oriented, and patient-centered mental health care.

The *highlight of the event* was an inspiring session by the *Guest Speaker and Guest of Honour* , *Mr. Qasim Ali Shah* , renowned motivational speaker and author, who spoke about the transformative power of books and the importance of personal growth.He donated 150 books for patients reading corners and he announced that it will be ongoing process to donate books.

In the *Administrative leadership* , *Dr. Ateeq ur Rehman(AMS Admin), Dr. Muhammad Ahmad,Dr Romana Ishfaq, Dr Tahira Arshad, Dr Munazza Niazi , Dr Nargis Fatima , Dr Maham Hameed and Ms. Nasreen Akhtar (Nursing Superintendent)* were present at the event.

*Among the teaching faculty,* *Prof. Dr. Nauman Mazhar, Prof. Dr. Saqib Bajwa, Dr Farasat Ali, Dr. Ghulam Hassan, and Dr. Ali Anjum* graced the ceremony.

Additionally, *all doctors, PGRs, Clinical Psychologists , Pharmacists, and Nursing Staff* actively participated.

As part of the ceremony, *Appreciation Certificates* were distributed among Kind donors who generously contributed books,including *Dr Farakh Abdullah , Ms Aqila Unbrin. The Department of Clinical Psychology, Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Lahore, successfully conducted another session of the Intern Lecture Series on Topic: *Motivational Interviewing on Friday, 2026. *Speaker for this lecture was Ms . Faroza Islam (Clinical Psychologist)* .

The session provided interns with over view on Motivational Interviewing aimed to explain the approach’s principles and demonstrated how it helps clients resolve ambivalence and build motivation for change. It provided practical communication skills—like reflective listening and open-ended questioning—and shows how these techniques improve engagement and outcomes in therapy or behavior-change settings.

*Bridging Minds with Empathy: A Transformative CME Workshop*

The Punjab Institute of Mental Health ( *PIMH* ), Lahore, successfully conducted a CME workshop titled “ *The Healing Connection: Why Empathy is of Paramount Importance in Mental Health Care.”*

Under the *visionary leadership* of *Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid,Executive Director,* PIMH, this workshop reflects a continued dedication to promoting quality training, professional development, and empathetic clinical practice in mental health care.

The session commenced with the recitation from the *Holy Quran* , setting a reflective and meaningful tone for the event. The workshop was *skillfully Moderated by Ms. Aqila Unbrin,* Principal Clinical Psychologist, PIMH.

The *welcome note* was delivered by *Prof. Dr. Nauman Mazher* , who emphasized the relevance of empathy as a core component of effective mental health care.

The session was led by the *Esteemed Resource person, Dr. IRAM ZEHRA BOKHAREY,* Consultant Clinical Psychologist, whose extensive clinical experience and academic contributions enriched the learning experience for all participants.
