📢 *Interns Lecture Series*

The Department of Clinical Psychology, Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Lahore, successfully conducted another session of the Intern Lecture Series on Topic: *Psychoeducation& Supportive Work on Friday ,5th December, 2025. *Speaker for this lecture was Ms . Fatima Yaqoob (Clinical Psychologist)* .
The objectives of the lecture were to help interns understand the purpose and components of psychoeducation, learn core principles of supportive work such as empathy and validation, develop skills forcommunicating information clearly to patients, recognize when to use psychoeducational versus supportive interventions, and apply these techniques to enhance patient coping, engagement, and overall treatment outcomes.

We extend appreciation to *Ms.Fatima Yaqoob* for delivering an informative lecture.
✨ These lecture series aim to enhance the clinical skills of interns, preparing them for professional excellence in the field of psychology.

*🎉 FCPS Part 2 Psychiatry Mock Exam – Successfully Conducted! 🎉*

The mock exam was held on 1–2 Dec 2025 at Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Lahore, featuring: TOACS, Short & Long Cases,& Expert Feedback.

*Chief Organizer was Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid,Executive Director PIMH* and *Co-Organizers* were Prof. Dr. Ammara Butt & Prof. Dr. Ali Madeeh Hashmi. *Faculty* members included Prof. Dr. Noman Mazhar, Dr. Farasat Ali Dogar, Dr. Saqib Bajwa & Dr. Ghulam Hasan.

*PIMH Marks Milestone as Long-Incarcerated Patient Kanizan Bibi Officially Discharged*

The Punjab Institute of Mental Health (PIMH) witnessed an important and symbolic moment on 28 November 2025, as Kanizan Bibi was formally discharged following the completion of her sentence, in accordance with a court directive.

A brief but *dignified ceremony* was held on the *Institute’s premises, attended by Brig. Prof Dr. Moawdat Rana, Prof Dr. Aysha Rashid Executive Director PIMH* , Prof. Dr. Ammara Butt, Dr. Nauman Mazhar, senior faculty members, and representatives from the Justice Pakistan Project. After the ceremony, she was handed over to *Central Jail Lahore* for her final release, underscoring the institution’s commitment to humane, lawful, and ethically grounded mental health care.
Kanizan Bibi’s case has long been emblematic in Pakistan’s criminal justice and mental health discourse. Once sentenced to death, her penalty was later commuted to life imprisonment. Her continued confinement came under renewed legal scrutiny with the *landmark Safia Bano vs The Home Department* judgment, in which the Supreme Court reaffirmed that individuals with severe mental illness must not be subjected to capital punishment or prolonged incarceration without treatment, evaluation, and due process.

In line with this ruling, the court had ordered that Kanizan Bibi remain at PIMH to complete her sentence in a therapeutic environment. It further directed that she be discharged once the medical board confirmed the completion of her sentence and her clinical readiness.
Her discharge marks not only the conclusion of a decades-long legal and medical journey but also a significant step toward strengthening rights-based mental health practices in Pakistan.

An academic session conducted on 27th November, 2025 at the Learning Resource Center Unit D , Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Lahore opened with an *inspiring Welcome Address by ED Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid,* setting the tone for meaningful discussion on strengthening psychiatric training.

The lecture was delivered by Ms. Faroza Islam (Clinical Psychologist).The session offered interns a concise overview of Motivational Interviewing, focusing on its principles and practical communication skills that enhance client engagement and support behavior change.

📢 *Five-Day IPC Cascade Training at PIMH!**

A five-day cascade training on Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) began on 10th November 2025 in the ATC Lecture Hall at PIMH under the visionary leadership of *Executive Director Prof. Dr. Aysha Rashid.* Conducted by Dr. Saira Rafique and Dr. Adeel Ayub, the training equipped doctors, nurses, and support staff with essential IPC knowledge and practical skills. The program concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony.
