A heart attack (myocardial infarction) occurs when blood flow to a part of the heart is blocked, often by a blood clot, resulting in damage to the heart muscle. Cardiac arrest is when the heart suddenly stops beating, which can be caused by various factors, including heart attack, arrhythmias, or other conditions. While heart attacks can lead to cardiac arrest, not all heart attacks result in cardiac arrest.
