Open letter to all , written with the hearts of all fellows
It is written today with a sense of urgency and a deep concern about the current state of our esteemed College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. For the past two decades, few individuals have held the reins of power at our college, and it is high time that we, as a collective body of professionals, stand up and demand the change that is long overdue.
As you are well aware, the College of Physicians and Surgeons plays a pivotal role in shaping the medical profession and safeguarding the health of the public. However, for the last 20 years, a small group of individuals has been dictating the policies and regulations that govern our practice, without any accountability or transparency.
Their decisions have led to a system where the interests of the few are placed above the needs of the many. They have created an environment where merit is overlooked, and positions are filled based on nepotism and personal connections, rather than qualifications and experience. The same bunch of people are staying for last 20 years with minor changes only . They hold their positions as they can bribe people of their choices with following as no transparent system is lacking for appointments of
1. written assessor
2. practical examiner
3. theory papers
4. examiners in foreign countries
5. convenor of examinations
6. Inspector of institutions for accreditation & So on
There is lot of unnecessary expenditure done on
1. Conduct of convocation with unnecessary expenses on travels & Dinners in 5 star Hotels
2. Foreign visits of Counsellors in Business Classes
3. Frequent Counsellors meetings in Karachi with lot of expenses TA DA etc
4. Useless compulsory workshops on all fellows to become supervisor with no assessment
Moreover there is Highly bureaucratic attitudes of Counsellors & President as there is no system
of transparency & accountability which is reflected by stickiness to appointment despite prolong sickness which speaks lot about use of the perks & power without contribution.
It is high time that we, as members of this esteemed profession, stand up and demand the change that is long overdue. We need to hold our college accountable and demand transparency in their decision-making processes. We need to push for a system where merit is the only criterion for appointments and promotions.
It is time to put an end to the culture of favoritism and ensure that the best and brightest among us are given the opportunity to lead and shape the future of our profession. It is required to join in the fight for change and demand that our college leadership be held accountable for their actions & must make all systems transparent for all with multiple checks & balances.
Together, we can bring about a new era of professionalism and integrity to our College of Physicians and Surgeons.
